Hi to all. A really dumb question about C&C First Decade from a very new online gamer.

From what I was told, there's no kind of regional restriction with the games. Meaning, I can buy the game in a retail shop from a country (UK) and then play it in another country (Portugal).

Can anybody confirm this? Did anyone do the same (buying from one country, and playing it in another one)?

I was planing on buying the game from outside of my country (around here I seem to only be able to find a recent edition and I was interested in the original release) but my main concern is being able to fully play the game offline and specially online with friends that already have bought the new edition in my country.

Thanks!

There are indeed no regional restrictions. Those only apply to movie DVDs, not to games.

Unfortunately, there are also only 2 versions of TFD, an English one and a German one, while the games themselves have been released in a lot more languages -_-

I don't really understand what you mean with the "recent edition" stuff though. The First Decade pack isn't just one game, it contains 6 games, and all of them are pre-patched to the most recent officially released version.

Some games and systems do have region restrictions.

Recent games maybe... but TFD is a collection of rather old games.

And tbh, I just don't do new games. Not from big DRM-obsessed companies anyway. My most recent purchase was Minecraft, and I never regretted that :p

I've heard that games sold through Steam could suffer with this.

Given it's age, I didn't expect that the First Decade "repackaging" would alter the games, but I'm not 100% sure on the fact that there could be any kind of regional restriction applied to the definition of the serials keys (or the multiplayer parts of the games).

I was referring to a re-release, similar to the EA Classics Edition (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Command-Conquer-First-Decade-Classics/dp/B0035LBM08), but in my country the re-release is called EA Value Games. Since I could acquire the original edition in UK by basically the same price of the re-release, I was more interested in the original one (this of course, if the fact that it is released in another country doesn't stop me from fully experience the multiplayer part of the games).

So, has anybody been in my "shoes", so to speak?

I really don't think there' any difference. That's not an "EA Classics Edition" it's just that it calls the games in TFD "EA Classics".

Well TFD isn't on Steam.

Sorry, I should have have been more specific with the link provided. Actually it is different (take a look at the second screenshot, in the left of the Amazon page, you will see a different boxshot). I haven't actually seen this specific release in "real life" but I'm assuming it is equal to the EA Value Games released in my country, which differs in the fact that it only comes with the manual and the 2 DVDs (no poster). That's why I'm interested in acquiring the original release: if I can buy it from another country (seems to be currently unavailable for sale in my country, at least in the stores I've checked) for the same price as re-released version, the poster would be a bonus. :)

Well TFD isn't on Steam. Yes, I know that. I'm still not very experienced with recent games, and having heard that Steam does that (I haven't tried Steam yet, so my knowledge of it is very limited), I was afraid that there could be some kind of similar implementation to retail games.

So far, I'm assuming then that there's no problem whatsoever of buying the game from one country and playing it online without any problems, in another country, correct?

Yes, correct. There are only 2 versions of TFD anyway; the German and the English one.

If you want a 100% original, there's probably tons of them on ebay. Heck, I got a sealed one in my closet.
