View Full Version : Any possibility if I can run two or more anti-virus/spyware programs at once?

The good news I was able to have the free ZoneAlarm 8 free firewall working together with Norton Internet Security 2009, but NIS 2009 thinks that firewall may be in conflict along with their own. A double firewall is better.

Now the next question, is there any possibility if I can run two or more anti-virus/spyware programs at once? Is it possible if there is an anti-virus and anti-spyware program(s) that can run and work together along with NIS 2009 and ZoneAlarm 8? I want to use another anti-virus or anti-spyware program if NIS 2009 is unable to find and get rid of unknown spyware/virus. Some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are so stupid they must have their service processes enabled and that may conflict with other anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.

Free anti-spyware programs like Malware Bytes, Spyware Terminator and Super AntiSpyware can run together since they don't use the service processes automatically at startup but can be started manually and those three anti-spyware programs have no conflicts with each other.

The reason why I post this is that there is no perfect anti-virus and anti-spyware program around to get rid of most threats. You can't just depend on only one program. I recently had an unknown virus/spyware in my PC system and NIS 2009 failed to find and get rid the main threat, until Super AntiSpyware was able to find one, but I believe there may be a leftover virus/spyware in my system.

You can, but they won't be as effective.

Well it is possible, just make sure you have a computer that can handle 2 of em at once and that they don't conflict each other.

It might work but they might cause major conflict too.

Some programs allow this to happen others present more conflicts than anyone would care to deal with at any given moment.

absolutely not recommended. Most AV programs will clash and call each others shots... plus you will have 2 sets of software that chew through fairly significant pc resources when scanning when you only really need 1 good one...

Also- I do not know who told you that running 2 software firewalls is better than one- because they are GROSSLY incorrect. Like running 2 AV software suites- You will find that your pc will run into clashes and have yet again more resources being chewed up unnecessarily. If your concerned about software accessing the internet without your permission, then I would recommend you use the firewall on your modem/router to close off particular ports

Where in the blue hell are you planning on going with your internet connection???

You gonna break into the PSN via alternate means??

seriosuly though there is no need, if you scan regularly and such you should be fine.

Bottom line: If you have a router that has a built-in firewall you're protected there. If you have a software based firewall from a security suite you have 2 firewalls currently working anyway. Router Firewall plus the software firewall that came with your security software suite of choice.

Geek- ALL modems/routers since the late 90's have had a hardware firewall. Some are more sophisticated than others, while others are relatively easy to use

no- the recommended configuration is the modem firewall plus a good software firewall. the software firewalls can be more easily bypassed, but if the modem/router is physically blocking the ports, your pc becomes a lot harder to attack successfully
