Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone knows of any software or any way I can get clips of EVA or the NOD equivalent.
Kind of an odd request but I'm in the middle of remixing some of the soundtrack for fun and thought it'd be a nice touch.
Cheers.

Use XCC Mixer to extract them from the games' .mix files. Might help to tell us which game you're talking about though.
The way to convert them from the game format to normal WAV is this:

(for audio you need "copy as WAV" -> "PCM")

It's called XCC Mixer, just download it and it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to work with it. Before I was able to extract the sound clips and they would have the same name as the dialogue spoken, it was much better for browsing, but it doesn't seem to work anymore

Of note is that Renegade has some pretty interesting EVA sound files, like the numbered "guidances", which are a rare glimpse into Nod's actual religious/philosophical doctrines.

Heh, I bet you that over 50% of its regular users have no idea about the collapsed second file browser, and just think the stuff they convert "ends up in the XCC folder".

Well, it has pretty good documentation on the site

And the fact you can customize the target of the Copy functions isn't mentioned in any of them. There's no mention whatsoever of the existence of the second file browser.

Yea, I kinda found it by accident :P Do you happen know how I can extract sound clips from the game and instead of having the name of the actual file, to have the description for it instead?
For example, I want to extract 00-i038.aud from speech.mix in TS, and it has the description "reinforcements have arrived", but it gives it the name of the .aud file.
also, I remember there was an audio clip with Kane saying "He who controls the Past, Commands the Future. He who Commands the Future, Conquers the Past." hidden in the Red Alert files but I can't find it anymore, and there were a couple of random sounds and icons in the Red Alert folder, but they're not there anymore. Were these among the files that your cleanup thingy removed?

Are you sure it was an audio clip? I know that RA's original installation had a pic of Kane with a text version of that quote.

I'm not sure if this is what MetalMessiah wants exactly, but this (http://planetcnc.gamespy.com/View.php?view=TiberianSun.Detail&id=69) has a bunch of Tiberian Sun EVA clips in it. I use EVA's "Incoming Transmission" as a text message alert on my phone.

I don't remember that. Do you mind posting an example?

Yea I know, but I'm 100% sure there were a sound clip with it too, maybe it was in TD's files not sure, but I know it existed.

Not possible I'm afraid. The pre-TS games have more descriptive names though.

Haha. No. It was never in TFD, simply because it's part of the RA1 DOS CD installer. That kinda means it never ends up in the game installation folder :p
RA CD -> \SETUP\ -> AUD.MIX -> kane2.aud
I can dig out the clip for you if you want. I got the RA CDs on my hard disk.

Ah that's why, well I have the old RA CDs too, I'll find em myself :)
and I know for a fact that I managed to extract the sound samples in TS with the descriptions, hence why I'm asking. I know it because when I made the tune Rise of Cabal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U81i3ORUcdI) which you may or may not have heard of I didn't go through listening to all the sound samples, I browsed through them in windows explorer. Maybe if I use the original CD's...

Eh. I dug it up anyway :p
http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/audio/kane-ra1.mp3
Note that the quote is actually from George Orwell. The original quote (from "1984") is
"He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future."
This was obviously a reference to the government manipulating schooling and media to change the recorded history to their advantage. Not to time travel :p
If anyone's interested, I got Kane's end speech from C&C1 ("The world... where to strike?") in CD quality FLAC, from the Sega Saturn version :)

Ah yea, I know that it was from George Orwell, but I wanted the Kane version of it :P
And yes, I'd be interested in that speech thing, was it on the original C&C95 CDs as well, or only on Saturn, or were you referring to the quality?
By the way, with all the talk about the XCC Mixer, I remember I found a craaapload of variouis voice samples in Renegade, they were dialogs from the various characters in the game, but they weren't used in the actual game, do you know anything about them?

Never really been interested in Renegade, lol.
As for the speech thing, yeah, obviously it is in the PC game too; it's the speech Kane gives when asking you what to destroy with the ion cannon. But the Sega Saturn C&C has all its music and that Kane speech as CD audio, so it's reeeally good quality :)

@Gobias
I don't have the actual files nor my TFD disc at hand right now, but I do have a transcript of all the guidances (unless I missed some):
Guidance 001: What makes our Brotherhood strong is an open heart and an open mind. Open yours and you will find salvation.
Guidance 002: What you give to the Brotherhood is what you will recieve. Strong faith begets a strong family.
Guidance 003: One cannot leave footprints in the sand of time while sitting down. Walk with the Brotherhood and make your mark in history.
Guidance 004: The temple of your body is sacred. Keep your steps clean and your temple will be praised, as yours is true Temple of Nod.
Guidance 005: Of all things you wear, your expression is most important. Beware: your demeanor affects the demeanor of others.
Guidance 006: Honesty and integrity are paramount. One can learn from mistakes if one is not busy denying them.
Guidance 007: Remember you are always among friends. Your brother is you, and as such, you are your brother. Treat your brother as you would treat yourself.
Guidance 008: One does not rise to the level of ones expectations but falls to the level of one's training. Make training a constant priority.
Guidance 009: Those who do not find time for excersise will have to find time for ilness. Attend physical therapy daily for a healthy body and healthy mind.
Guidance 012: 'Yes sir' and 'no sir' are the two most important things you will ever say. These two phrases determine your destiny in The Brotherhood.
Guidance 014: Negativity is spread by thinking negatively. Think positive and be positive. Think success and be successful. This is the way of Kane.
Guidance 015: Hope and fear make poor companions. Keep hope close to you and leave your fear behind.
Guidance 019: Death comes to those who falter in ther faith, as they are easily swayed by temptation. Remain true to your nature and you will find yourself rewarded.
Guidance 020: The one who uses the loudest voice is the one who has the weakest argument. In your effort to be heard, be certain that you listen to the advice of others.
Guidance 021: Two things will rob you of your peace of mind: work unfinished and work not yet begun. Bring your assigned tasks to completion.
Guidance 022: Experience is only gained by not having it when you need it. Do not be afraid of exceeding your perceived limitations.
Guidance 023: There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the important things. Prioritize your tasks.
Guidance 024: Love the light for it shows you the way. Endure the darkness for it shows you the stars. This is the way of Kane.
Guidance 032: Determination begins in the mind. Try your tasks and fail. Do your tasks and succeed. Become your tasks and thrive. This is the way of Kane.
Guidance 046: Thoughts of individuality and uniqueness generate thoughts of loneliness and rebellion. Within the Brotherhood you are not alone.
Guidance 047: Find serenity in your toil. Those who never achieve happiness are those who complain while awake and are planning complaints for tomorrow while they are sleeping.
Guidance 048: Those who dare to fail can achieve greatness. Bravery is a virtue of success. This is the way of Kane.
Guidance 049: The best way to escape a problem is to solve it. Do not hesitate when confronted with difficulty.
Guidance 050: A diamond is a piece of coal that finished what it started. When you begin a task, be sure to bring it to completion. This is the way of Kane.
Guidance 051: Challenges can be stepping stones or stumbling blocks. How you view them determines their difficulty.
Guidance 052: To be upset over what you don't have is to waste what you do have. Cherish what is yours.
Guidance 053: When faced with a problem involving a misunderstanding with others, you must first examine yourself.
Guidance 054: The Depression Era taught us there is something worse than being forced to work: It is being forced NOT to work. In the Brotherhood there are always tasks to accomplish.
Guidance 055: Water is to be shared. Food is to be shared. Starvation is the sign of a failing society.
Guidance 127: Idols and false worship are tools of deception. Place your faith in the tangible, as the Brotherhood exists now for you. This is the way of Kane.
Guidance 128: Do not confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence is achievable, perfection is elusive.
Guidance 129: Find love for your daily tasks. One does not become successful at something one hates.
Guidance 130: Those who do not have clearly defined goals are destined to work for those who do. Focus on organisation and promotion will come naturally.
Guidance 131: Foolishness always results when the toungue outraces the brain. Formulate your words clearly before speaking.
Guidance 132: Happiness is not the absence of problems, but the ability to deal with them. Overcome your obstacles to find happiness.
Guidance 133: Keep your head and your heart going in the right direction, and you will not worry about your feet. This is the way of Kane.
Guidance 223: Skill in battle must be tempered by skill in peace. Balancing these elements leads to better living. To achieve peace, one must endure the hardships of warfare.
Guidance 231: There is never time to do it right, but there is always time to do it over. This is the way of Kane.

The DOS installation has the audio clip. The Windows 95 version does not.

I dug out the sound files in the Renegade always.dat file. There are a whole lot of taunts from different characters and stuff that sounds like they were gonna be used in multiiplayer, and some random weird ones. There are 8.651 files in total. Here are a few quotes
"Killer squirrels, better keep my eyes open"
"Oh, did that hurt your profit margin?"
"OK, OK, THAT was right-handed!"
"Ironic, death by tiberium"
"Notice the objects in the room, imagine an object outside of this room, think of your loved ones, notice what happens"

I only actually played through Renegade once and I'm not sure where, if anywhere the guidances could be heard. They're all said by EVA, as in Kia Huntzinger's voice. I'll try to find and upload them come the weekend.

I wish there was an EVA voice thing for the Windows Text-to-speech
