C&C Generals - Beta version

OK guys ...

I don't know how many of you know about this, because I didn't knew it until yesterday either.

The Beta version of Generals had much more features, for example instead of choosing special abilities, you have to choose the general you want to play with. That's why the game was called "Generals" at all.

As I heard, EA deleted many features from the Beta version in order to rush the release date and to make profit faster.

Note: It is in German language. (Ironicly the final game was censored in Germany.)

It's the only one I found about Generals Beta version, and now I want to ask wheter anyone of you know about this or even have the link to the beta version ...

I've seen that video, and the Beta version did look very cool. I remember some modders creating a mod Generals Alpha or something like that. The mod included many features from both Alpha and Beta versions of Generals. Mod is nowadays cancelled I reckon.

I just managed to find out about the mod "ProGen". Indeed it's dead, however there is a still working link to ... them.

Actually, there are two "ProGen" existing: One for Generals, and one for ZH.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to install the one for Generals, cause it said that Vista is not supported. It didn't even work with compability mode. Damnit!

I would have one more that showed the USA and China working in a joint operation, which would later be changed into a USA only mission, but I lost that video years ago. :( .


And as for the GLA mission, I haven't played the campaign from Generals, or ProGen for a while, so I don't remember if it's an official mission or a separate restored GLA mission. However, if it's neither, then I'm pretty sure that's the "Black Sheep" mission. It was released later as part of the sixth anniversary celebration for Generals. Announced by APOC on the old forums and released then. Here's a Gamereplays.org page on it, with a download link as well:

Actually, it's a mod for Generals, which is using content from the beta and alpha version. So it is indeed content from the beta version. Just improved stuff.

The video is called "Beta Restoration Mod". And because it restores the Beta version of Generals, I call this thread "C&C Generals - Beta Version".

BTW, did someone encounter the same difficulties when installing the ProGen Mod for Generals?

There is no video for me at the moment so I can't add much. There was no beta for Generals. There was a promotional thing called the Generals Multiplayer Test in late 2002 that was a lot of fun and I do still have my copy but since I can't access the video at the moment I can't give you much relevancy between the two.

I do not believe that is beta video of any sort. There was no beta. The multiplayer test was multiplayer only there were zero missions in it. I don't know what it is (other than kind of boring not much happens) but it is not beta material.


Now Kyang's video is very, very cool though and very much looks like a very, very early build. In the multiplayer test build the game was done although it is not the game you play today. Tunnels build in like 2 seconds it was ridiculous, AA's were even more op than they are today and get this......mdvee's ejected their md's at 100% health when the vee died. You did not have to micro the ejection they just popped out automatically lol!
