View Full Version : Not quite “In-Game Footage?”

I’m gonna be the first to admit this is a relatively minor complaint but I found it rather odd that in a trailer advertising “in-game footage” they would edit in an extra explosion into the battle. I’m guessing they just wanted a little more punch or something but it seems kinda sorta dishonest. Makes me wonder how much of that trailer was actually done ingame.

Left is the trailer, right is some stock explosion effect.

Reading this back, I sound like a jerk complaining over nothing, so here is a smiley to lighten the mood of this post;

Maybe the stock explosion effect is just part of the FB2 engine?

Maybe the stock explosion effect is just part of the FB2 engine?We've got a possible winner.

If every particle was made independent, it would lag heavily, and it doesn't make sence, because the players usially watch from distance.
But using a simple polygon is better than 9000 particles.

Yeh i thought some of the explosions looked kind of fake in the screenshot given. What do you expect though? I bet the game is far from prototyping a decent product since there is still over a year left of development.

I'm sure there was a lot of copy and pasting from the frost engine's effects library.

I reckon after the initial success of modern warfare 3 and battlefield 3; these were probably the reasons why EA are even considering a modern RTS game. The trailer was so short it probably was just a mock up 3d movie of the game in some 3d modeling software...the actual technical component is faaaaaarrrr from finished...this of course is a educated guess...

Maybe it has been in a development since skynet...who knows...

Uhm, I'm sure if you looked at any game trailer, there is always post-production touch up.

Why is everyone ripping them apart? Just enjoy the fact they are making a new game, the one most of us actually wanted.

The more we keep backchatting and mocking thier efforts, it'll turn out like CnC4.

Enough.

I think saying it is dishonest is going a bit far...maybe you should go work in the game development industry...

It is not like they can't do it or won't...

One year is a long time. Plenty of time...
