Subject:
Keep the current realistic, non-flashy, non-intrusive, non-bright, non-glowy team color style.

Description:
Generals 2 is a game unlike past C&C games. It is not 2-dimensional and is not based on SAGE, but rather Frostbite 2, which is extremely realistic. The current team color style does not intrude yet is clear enough.

Many a times, when a C&C is announced, units bear little team color if any. As development goes on, it is very common for additional team color to be added on the units, and for the team color to be made to glow and become bright and flashy. Sometimes the team color even produces bloom or light, as if they were neon lights or were glow-in-the-dark.

The current team color style in C&C Generals 2 is not distracting or too strong to be an eyestrain. It merges well with the textures of vehicles and structures, while still being quite visible.

It would be better if the team color is kept in this style rather than completely cover the texture beneath it. StarCraft II and other RTS games do have team color, but they do not take precedence over unit texture nor do they look flat, like with past C&Cs - The team color blends with the textures beneath it, making the team color not look like a distracting block or line on top that hides or ruins the texture beneath it. Generals 2, being a Frostbite 2 game and having an extremely realistic look to it, should keep its current team color style.

If it is found that it is necessary to go back to glowy, flashy, eyesore team color, then at least an option to disable it and change it into this form should be possible, especially for campaign.

Positive Effect:
- Doesn't create an eyesore for players who play too long.
- Doesn't detract from the realism and beauty of the graphics.
- Doesn't distract players too much.

Negative Effect:
- Depending on the units, might be hard to differentiate for some players between different colors, especially those who are color blind. Perhaps an option under the "graphics" options to make it more visible should be possible in this case, as do past C&Cs have options in the same menu to show or hide units that are hidden behind structures or buildings.
- Some colors might be less visible than others.

Very good point. I like the way it looks in the Generals trailer, but it is true that I don't want to see something as flashy as in RA3 again. If there is going to be near-full-body team colors, then the colors should look good, and not too bright. That's the only thing that ruined the Peacekeeper for me.

Basically, the team color should not be the only thing you see. From the looks of the footage from the Generals 2 trailer, I think they followed this rule very well; you can tell the difference, but you can still see the unit.

BioWare, PLEASE keep the faction coloring the way I see it in that awesome teaser!

So far it looks good for now, so no need to change right..?

Hmm. Make it optional.

You actually WANT glowly, neon colors?

Agreed with original post.

Hmm... well, if there are people like that (and I'm sure there are), then I guess it should be an option. But I want the default to look exactly the way I see it right now.

Yes, same.

No, but some might want glaring team colors. I don't.

Generals color was fine. RA3 graphics sucked in a whole not only color but thats another thing. I wont come back to the kids graphic style (some think its cartoony style whatever). Point is that there has to be enough color to see your own units at once but as less as possible.

I like to have neon colors for the players. And it's way more realistic as you control your units through a smart interface, not a camera. Armies already use colors when viewed right are super bright to reduce friendly fire while not being visible for the eye. If you bring the example with SC(2): yeah it works because 90% of the skin are colored in that color or flashy objects (like the Zealot weapons which emit a bright light) But looking at Terran objects is like a blob of color with some grey. If you reduce it the team isn't visible at once, as it is in the Generals 2 video, I only realized the EU player had orange after watching it 2-3 times, and the point in these colors is to recognize teams quickly.

Thing, when going for "realistic", the TW style would be more appropriate, seeing how today IR markings (TRON (http://thefutureofthings.com/pod/1189/tron-high-tech-identification-system.html), CIP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Identification_Panel)) are used for the role of "housecolor". Now, of course you shouldn't have big patches of glowing stuff on tanks, that looks ridiculous, but some fine yet flashy lines/symbols might work much better than big patches of un-glowing stuff on tanks.
