  • my next PC build

    #1
So I was looking to build a moderate gaming/video encoding computer since my current PC has now slipped into a coma, and its time to turn off the life support. After having a squiz at the local discount pc parts supplier- and a budget of AUD$1200- I believe I have put together a good pc build. chuck us your opinions if ya want:

I am recycling my HDD and my PSU since those parts are salvageable, and I have important data to back up to my external HDD before I put a brand new HDD in there

EDIT: to cut costs further, I am removing 1 4GB pair of DDR3 RAM making the total cost $1059.00

FAIL! Have fun with your Gaming Laptop!

Ontopic: I would honesty wait till AMD's Bulldozer is released before doing an upgrade. Granted you may need it now, but when Bulldozer is released, current prices of tech will drop. From research I did last week, It is scheduled to be released June/July of this year.

hahahahaha now convert it to everyone elses currency and the cost of his pc would be like 50p hehehehe

Also apt, similar specs to what i have in mind for my next rig, cept mine will cost a quarter of what it will cost you.

@ havy : the GPU is the first thing on the list, right at the very top. What you think is the GPU is actually the Soundcard

            Can't you just get 1 4GB module?

Then you would not have the advantages of dual-channel memory addressing. The actual capacity would be no different, sure, but having a second stick in there for dual channel means that it essentially doubles the bus-width of your memory.

Lol Windows Ultimate? What a waste of money
Home Premium or Business does the job fine

My supplier only charges $10 more for ultimate over home premium... I find home premium is lacking in features, and my supplier didn't have business un stock...

Also Red, if you look at the current exchange rates, Australia is $0.04 ahead of the U.S.
if I didn't have a manufacturers fault on my laptop(multiple_irp__requests BSOD), I would use it until bulldozer comes out... but the simple fact is that I need a video editing pc for my current job, and my laptop is only reliable for half hour stretches before the faulty acer drivers make my system go kaput

I know a few people who have had bad luck with Acer...so reading that doesn't surprise me one bit.

yeah, one night I was drunk and thought I bought an ASUS, when it arrived, it was an ACWER, and I checked my receipt to see if it was a dodgy sale, but I paid for ACER instead... The frustrating thing is that the problem could be easily fixed, as it is an old HP problem that was discovered in 2006 and resolved by microsoft recommending a driver update
