  • Which is better: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon 7990?

    #1
Been thinking about asking this latest question, what's the fastest video card right now (or which is better), Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon 7990?

One big difference: the price. About $350 USD apart from those two video cards.
One other difference: the usage of PCI-Express 3.0 and dual-core support for AMD Radeon.

Dualcore GPUs are garbage as of now. Don't fall for their allegedly superiour performance. Until we get programs that actually use the dualcore performance strenghts of such a GPU any single core GPU is vastly superiour in terms of efficiency and value per performance.

And by the time we get enough games/programs to warrant getting oneself a dualgpu, we will have as such that will blow current version away by a long shot.

They are not garbage, but i would not buy one just for gaming. If you however, happen to crunch or do thing like i do with my gtx590 (archviz using Octane Render), they are perfect.

I always prefer nvidia cards, CUDA is very useful in video converters, I would suggest you Nvidia cards if you want hassle free gaming.

the performance gain with 7990 over 680 is very minor and its very cost ineffective to buy it. id suggest you gtx 680 as its the most powerful single gpu card on the market right now. soon nvidia and amd will release the next series so if you have patience you can wait and get a newer card. gtx 680 has enough juice to keep your pc running all games at max for the next 3-5 years. its overall a good investment.
if you are willing to spend money as much as a 7990 costs then you can also buy gtx titan. pretty much the king of all graphics cards right now.

I have personally always preferred the NVIDIA cards over AMD, however both have their advantages and disadvantages. Ultimately though, the margin of difference is very tiny indeed.
