  • How would you react if Generals 2 was cancelled?

    Anyway...

A bit worried about EA not clarifying why Generals 2 is not in the Fiscal Year 2013 schedule.

PS: Yeah, I wanted to use that video at the forums...

Generals II might look great in the trailer, but the gameplay seems horrible to me. I don't think EA even understands what it's fans want. We want a modern war game but EA comes up with stupid futuristic units like that helicopter that shoots missiles with blue excaust fumes and stuff.

That is not a helicoptor. It is an Orca.

And before people start saying "It has fan ducts, and that one small difference makes it not an orca," think of this. A Ford Taurus with a nuclear engine or even sails is still a Ford Taurus.

On topic... I'd be disappointed, but my main reaction would be determined by the reason and the end result. If they cancel Generals 2 to bring us Red Alert 4 instead, I'd probably be happy.

It would still a Ford Taurus because it would still be labeled a as Ford Taurus. We don't know the name of the unit yet, so, for the moment, we cant actually technically guess whether it's an Orca or not (by that time, we wouldn't need to guess anyway).
For the moment, the two different sides of the argument are arguing based on what they see. One side thinks it's an Orca because it is a 1-2 man VTOL that fires missiles and has two propulsion devices on its side. The other side thinks it's not an Orca because the thrusters use propellers, rather than whatever fuel an Orca uses, and that its general shape is not similar enough to an Orca. Another argument could be simply that that's not the universe that Orcas show up in.

Let's just leave the whole Orca thing to the developers, shall we? We didn't create it and we don't have reason enough to fight over it.

As Kyang said, no gameplay has been revealed. Please don't comment on information so generally if we can't know enough about it. Same thing with the Orca debate. That goes to everybody.
(I know, I took a side in that debate. I still have my opinions, but I'm withdrawing now.)

On to the actual subject, I'd be very disappointed if Generals 2 was cancelled. However, I wouldn't be quite as disappointed if it was replaced with another C&C game.

I'd still be really ticked though.

I wouldn't really be bothered tbh, since so little about the game has been revealed there's nothing to actually anticipate.

You do realize that none of your reasons pertains to gameplay, right?

I can live with it, that means more time for me to play other games out there. What I'd be disappointed at is if the game requires to be online in order to play it.

I hope not either, but I am almost positive EA will make this a requirement. Look to nearly any modern PC game today and you will find many of them require internet to play. It has pretty much become a "standard", for developers. EA has even announced the new SimCity will require internet to play.

Back to the topic, I had not even considered that Generals 2 would be cancelled until this thread was created. Command and Conquer has too much to lose right now and I think BioWare Victory would recognize that. Besides, I see no reason why they should. From what I have seen, the community would be very pleased if they made Generals 2.

Maybe one of the reasons is that Coommand and Conquer Tiberium Alliances was a total fail.
