  • Don't ruin offline mode.

    #1
    Hey there!

So, here's my predicament: Over the last few years we've seen more and more games go toward online modes for added interaction with the community, this in turn has left "offline mode" lackluster.

I'm talking about things included in online mode that are not avaiable in offline mode: This ranges from important lore-objects (Heroes IV) to achievements (Starcraft 2) to offline mode not being avaiable at all! (Diablo 3)

Personally, I like to whip out Generals: Zero Hour every once in a while, because I can: And if systems are compatible, I'll be doing it still when I retire.

    So I'd like to make a plea: Don't force online mode onto us, follow the path of previous games (Red Alert 3, Tiberian Wars, Generals);
Have it avaiable (And not remind you of it's existance every time you start the game), but don't have it required to play the game's singleplayer components to it's fullest.

    Pretty please?

Edit: Threat ressurected because of new information that required answers. Please keep civil and calm. Take your rage to your own threads.

    I couldn't agree more.

      agreed,

i wouldn't mind registering the copy at installation or something. but i play offline and want it to be just that. no kicking you off the game because of lost connection for the campaign..

I think it's fine to have ranking stuff like achievements tied to being online (as per Steam/Origin) but an offline mode is a must (as per Steam/Origin).

im connected to the net all the time and i have no problem with that. the problem is when theres surver lag because too many are playing the game. the most obvious example of that is diablo 3. it lags most of the time, it doesnt let me play the game at all from time to time and when i actually want to play with friends it disconnects some of us. i hope there wont be such things in gen 2. make single player offline and all will be fine.

I concur. Multiplayer and stats would obviously require a connection, but I don't want to have to be prevented from playing a good skirmish match or singleplayer level just because my internet connection isn't working.

God forbid I have to read a book, or something...

There needs to be an offline mode for sure, I wouldn't mind if you can't do achievements and such then. If for some reason I have no internet for a while, its always nice that your still able to play the singleplayer.

While your at it, bring back LAN aswell

well, I have to agree here. Since Diablo 3's release this always online DRM has been irritating me a lot. Offline mode is a must here.

Whatever got the publishers worked up on the whole "be online/connected to us or else you can't play the game" routine? Last year I've read it's for some security measure that "didn't worked" as rumored and hurts the legit players more instead and even up until now.

I agree as well, with all these recent games requiring an online connection, its rather sad.

I'm very nearly an offline only player. I very much hate being forced online.

Especially since my internet connection is so often either down or incredibly slow.

I agree with the statement of this, but remember the last time when RA3 was released, Securom DRM was installed into the PC causing unknown issues with hardware and other stuff.

I also agree with this. I might not have much of an issue with the connection, but what about those who have a limited amount of download/upload a month? If you force them to log in, they might not even be able to play for the fact that they must be connected, thus meaning they are transferring data they might not be able to pay for.
