  • Required internet speed for Generals 2

    #1
Ok , well ive got ADSL , , C&C Generals seems to run fine on it (most times) and ive tested my connection at speedtest.net @ 7.33mb per second download speed and 0.32 mb per second upload speed

would this be good enough to run generals 2 ??

i cant get ADSL+2 in my area , or cable , so ADSL+1 is going to be all hope for running Generals 2 when it comes out

    thanks

Speaking generally since your question can't fully be answered since there isn't enough information available. However you should be ok. Most RTS games establish a p2p connection between players, so it might be a good idea to do the speed test to several places both close and far away from your location and see how your ping changes.

gens 2 is supposed to be client-server so there won't be any pvp connections. This in theory (assuming EA maintains a healthy server environment) should lessen any strain on the players connection speed and make multiplayer a lot more stable.

In theory, you should never need any internet conenction to "run" a computer game. You should be able to play single player just fine and if it has LAN support, should be able to play offline utiplayer just fine. (original generals did not require an internet connection to play...)

Now, online multiplayer is a whole other animal. I'm hoping they don't ruing this game with origin/steam style always online BS.

Neither Origin nor Steam force you to be always online...

                        Highly doubt it.

Name one recent actual computer game (as in a real $50.00 or more cd/dvd purchased game) that requires steam, and works completely offline with no internet connection.

Origin I have not messed with much except for 1 or two games/trials, does it ahve an offline mode? Does said mode actually let you play offline single or multiplayer?

Wait, so one moderator says it will require broadband and the other says Generals 2 won't require an always online connection?

Me thinks the mods may be as confused/uninformed as the rest of us......

Of course they don't know anything more than us, they're just like us, except they moderate the posts and threads here. That's all.

But if I had to guess, I'd go with Geek's post. You most likely will require to be online at all times, although I hope that isn't the case.
