  • Do people still play the older games online?

    #1
Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong section; I'm new to this forum.

But the other day I went on tiberium sun online (I even tried in the 'rest of the world' lobby) and literally nobody was online.

Does nobody play it online anymore? or was it just something wrong with my game perhaps?

Well, we still play C&C1 and RA1 online on cncnet... but I haven't seen many people talk about TS in the lobby/IRC channel (though cncnet does support TS).

To find players you should probably ask about that on a more TS-oriented forum, like Project Perfect Mod.

I'd be very surprised when Tiberian Sun actually dies. It seems to always have at least 90 to 20 people depending on time and day. I recognize people on there from 4 years ago playing it almost daily. Lots of modders still mod the game as well. It is very alive.

I am surprised too, i dont play it as often but man.......

@OP: Quite a few of the older CnC's have alot of life in them. May be because they are epic in all ways.

CnCNet basically replaces a network dll file which the game normally uses to handle its multiplayer communications. The replacement dll contains code to make the game's LAN function connect with people online instead of on the local network. The game doesn't notice a thing, and you just play "LAN" games onlline

Not like you really need the xwis site to play on xwis though... it's just the default ingame system. All you need to do to play TS on it is log in on the internet lobby with whatever username you want and a password that's exactly 8 characters, and hope the username you chose isn't already taken.

And judging from Lucianhector's original post, he already did that.

I'd play older games provided that there's enough people to play with. Btw, just how old are we talking about here?

The original (320x200, DOS) C&C1 is from 1995. It can't be played online though.

                    RA95 (640x400) is from 1996.

C&C95 (the 640x400 windows '95 remake of DOS C&C1) is from 1997, though the engine is still identical to the original from 1995. I patched it up to run in 1024x768 though.

TS is from 1998 I think.

The cncnet lobby (IRC) currently has 5 people which I know are players, but around the evening (EU time) on weekends there are usually up to 20 people. We mostly play C&C95. C&C95 online on CnCNet supports up to 6 players. RA and TS support up to 8 players.

Ehh, are you talking about cncnet or xwis now?

I told you, for cncnet you have to look for players in the irc channel (the "chat/player lobby" link on http://cncnet.cnc-comm.com), and it uses the LAN system to play on internet, not the Internet system.
