  • Black screen when trying to run Tiberian Sun

    #1
    Hello ... new guy here.

    WIndows XP SP3

I don't know much about computers so most of what I've read in misc. forums on the web is greek to me. I have the original TS disk with serial number on the back that I purchased new years ago. I had the game running on my computer until recently when I had to run repair on WIndows. After the repair I reinstalled several programs and ran each one after install to make sure they worked. I then reinstalled TS and tried to run it and I got a black screen. I could hear the intro music and when I moved the mouse I could hear it click the hidden menu items but all I ever got on the monitor was a black screen.

I've tried what little I could understand from misc posts on the web to fix it, i.e.; unblocked it, setting compatibility to Win 95 & Win 98, changing display to 16 bit or 32 bit, screen display to 800 X 600 and all the other screen settings going up and I've reduced and/or shutoff hardware accelerator and I've uninstalled and reinstalled it about 10 times with the same results.

I uninstalled the copy created from the official disk then downloaded the free version .rar file and tried to run that. Although I'm not sure I ever figured out how to correctly install that version, when I ran Game.exe I got a black screen and again I could hear the music and hear the clicks as my mouse moved over the hidden menu.

I know this game works on this computer because it worked fine until I repaired Windows .... I just can't find the setting or whatever to make it run right. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm... I'm afraid I'm going to be have to be remarkably unhelpful. This is definitely a graphics issue but that diagnosis is way too wide to be of any use. Did you install any new programs, or uninstall any? Are your graphics card drivers up to date? As they won't be if you haven't updated them after the wipe. If the drivers are up to date and you haven't made any other changes to your computer then I'm afraid I can't be of any use...

Thanks for your suggestion. I did update / replace all drivers after the repair.

As I have no idea what the problem could be then, I recommend contacting EA customer support. They tend to be useless but if you are lucky they might be able to help. Wish I could help though

You can ask at TS's official multiplayer forum: www.strike-team.net, they may be able to help you out. If not, try the multiplayer-only version in their download section.
