  • GDI Support Question: Weapon Dampeners or Sabotage Weaponry?

    'Weapon dampeners' has larger area of effect, and can be fire at opponent almost instantnly once player has large number of spanners. Spanners are also faster and small. One can often fly over units, fire its ability and come back fast to formation without even being spotted.

    Archangel's 'sabotage weaponry' has smaller area of effect and unit itself require a lot more command points to recruit. So if player decides to build more archangels, 'sabotage weaponry' will be used rarly and against smaller number of units.

    I admit that 'Sabotage Weaponry' is kind of mistery to me. I only suspect that this ability decreases damage of opponent's fire. If that is true it means both abilities has similar effect on the opponent: reduces effectivness of (at least)comabt units.

    True is that Archangels can have more repair beams in total, have more abilities, and 'sabotage weaonry' comes automatically with it, but still 'weapon dampeners' seems to me more useful than 'sabotage weaponry', when each, spanners and archangels use all possible command points.

    Is there something that I missed? Maybe each ability should be used against different kind of units. I dont know that.
    Anyone has a clue?

    You're debating yourself on which works best? You're better off with Weapon Dampeners imo. Since its a T2 upgrade, provided that you have a tech point to get it. You can get it earlier than a T3 Archangel, Spanners otoh are already around early game and that makes them more viable to upgrade to use the Weapon Dampeners than grabbing an Archangel just to use Sabotage Weaponry.

    Another thing is that at the current metagame, Archangels tend to become a hot target even if they're a Heavy armor class. They don't have enough hitpoints to take a beating and its a bad idea to spam them especially when there's a fleet of Basilisks around. It gets worse if they have Spectrum Beam upgrade o:

        Oh another thing about Archangels, they have four repair arms, two of them are dedicated to repair the owners units while the other two are for their teammates. I think you can use all four of them at the same time if its arms healing range can reach all the units they're designated to heal with.

        But you can't use all four of them on either you or your teammates units.

          Difference is basically that the archangel comes with it automatically and needs to be stationary to cast it, archangel can also boost your own units while dampening the opponent + heal everything around him.

          Spanners are just fast units who need an upgrade to be able to nerf enemy units.

          Spanner is better for nerfing enemy units, but archangel is better at healing and boosting.

            I did some testing now, and Spanners ability only lasts for about 4-5 seconds, making it actually pretty useless, you reduce enemy firepower for 4 seconds (basically 1 artillery shell, they won't shoot another shell during that little time).

            Archangels ability lasts the double duration; 8-10 seconds. Which is a lot better if you ask me.
            MoK also lasts for 10 seconds, so 1 sabotage from the Archangel can make a MoK army not so effective.

              Cool, thanks. I need to use archangels more often. Only problem I have is to micro them properly since they are slow and draw enemy fire as soon as they are spotted (as Stormgear already mentioned earlier). They die first almost on every occasion.

              It could be nice to have sort of "defensive manuvers" upgrade that Kodiaks enjoy, in order make doging little bit less painful.
