  • New Renegade?

    #1
I was really hoping there would be a new renegade game. When it got cancelled, I, alongside many CnC fans were devastated. It was possibly the best multi player game ever. The emphasis was on team play, as opposed to individualistic game play. It is my goal, to set out to reprimand this. I am going to be creating a game with a large team of individuals that brings renegade game play back into the modern era, without flat out copying the game. The game is planned to face off 100 vs. 100 players, and be absolutely awesome.

If you have any suggestions on what you want in particular to this title, you can PM me or simply reply to this post. We already have a bit of a design guide and some concept art. Our plans are huge.

Who knows in the the future maybe, we have no idea what the plans are for CnC yet, but hopfully they will be Epic just like our shiny new forums.

Ok, well, do you know if you guys will have any team openings in a couple years? I'd love to be able to bring some ideas to the table and still get credit instead of simply making a ton of suggestions and sending a partial design guide and getting no credit.

Yeah, I'd love to get on the new C&C team, too, as a level designer. Anyways, I'm pretty sure Victory will only be working on strategy C&C's, I believe. However, this doesn't mean that there might not be another C&C FPS/RTS.

If we show enough support, maybe one day there will be a sequel. Which I hope for.

@RealWar: I'd love to be a level designer too. I'm in grade 11, but I have my own development team. (most of the people are in their 20's). If I don't go too far with my development team, I'd love to be able to work for Victory as a level designer if there's openings. I'm going to the Vancouver Art Institute for game art and design, so that would easily qualify me, alongside the work I will have done by that time on the side.

Uh, good luck with that, it sounds like a case of "kid in a candy shop" syndrome to me.

Don't chew off more then you can swallow.

Don't be negative or underestimate the situation. If you have nothing positive or with information, don't bother posting. I have engineers working on this, just because one of the people leading it happens to be under 18 by less than 2 years doesn't mean that it's bound to fail. Get things straight.

And yes, I've heard of Renegade X Black Dawn.

Well, that depends on what you do in your studies as well as your side projects. You are, however, starting off the right way; just don't get complacent in thinking that you will be good just by going to the Art Institutes (have a number of buds in SF and Chicago), Gnomon, Animation Mentor, VFS, DAVE, Full Sail, Ringling and others that you qualify. It takes a ton of work, and chances are you won't score level-design right out of school (unless you're John Carmack good). If you do get into the industry, you'll be a tester, as so many people go to school and apply for the more popular jobs (designers, art-artists, animators, programmers) that decent people are a dime-a-dozen. If you really want to hop on a AAA title fresh outta school, go for something more specialized like technical artist (me in VFX/film/medical), rigging/ weight map artist, MoCap manager, lighter, shader artist, et al.

That said, I don't think it's the right time for a new Renegade. To get the franchise rebooted and up and running again, you have to go back to the bread-n-butter (ie: RTS PC titles). Both WW and EALA fell short when they tried to branch out, and I fear another FPS iteration at such a critical time would kill any chance the franchise has with this revitalization. Love Renegade, but I don't a sequel can recapture the magic in the bottle any time soon.

Guys, you know, Renegade was a financial failure for Westwood.

I can't see Victory Games taking any risks with an FPS C&C game to be fair. As I remember reading somewhere that the new studio was committed to developing new RTS C&C titles.

Keep watching to the community for C&C FPS games. Apocalypse Rising, Renegade X, A Path Beyond and CnC Reborn have plenty of FPS action on the way.
