    Dear mods,

Media companies spend millions of dollars yearly getting accurate consumer feedback, and in the name of the new community you've set up I thought I'd start a thread giving some of my thoughts (and hopefully for others to contribute)

First off, I'd like to note that this, a new forum with a new community manager, is an excellent start. The modern RTS can only be successful with lots of user input, and although I hate to point out other companies, it's important to look at successful models.

I have been a fan since I was a small child marveling at my cousin playing the original C&C, wondering how he made the little men move around. Having played every C&C I was delighted at your successes, and felt where games could have used more work. Here are some things that I think will hopefully put this Command & Conquer on track to being a success.

    • CLOSED BETA (SUCCESSFUL BALANCE TESTING). RTS' are naturally extremely competitive. The only way to nurture this aspect is balance testing. If nothing else from this post is usable, take this. Despite whatever you accomplish in alpha, the intricacies of an RTS can really only be balanced with thousands upon thousands of play hours. You need a beta, not just a beta, but a beta with a lot of user feedback. If you have an open beta, you'll just have a bunch of people play it, decide it's no good, then forever move on. A closed beta, with a large involvement from this community, will give you exactly the feedback you need to get this game a good following and successful launch - and in the modern game world a game's launch will determine whether it will sink or swim.
    • ENCOURAGE A WELL-ROUNDED COMMUNITY. The off-topic forums are an excellent start. The difference between a place to ask about bugs, and a autonomous community is the spectrum of topics being discussed. The sooner you have people talking about which "Big Momma's House" was the sh*ttiest, the sooner you'll have a community from which you can extract important and useful feedback.
    • PROMOTE THE FORUM. Use every outlet possible to get people coming here. You have the name COMMAND & CONQUER behind you. Think about that. One of THE biggest gaming names in the world - a name which has spawned plenty of successful fan site (all with successful communities). With a little encouragement this forum could be the hub of this global community that will exist with or without this website.
    • MAKE THE COMMUNITY FEEL USEFUL. I can't stress this enough. Put up polls, about whatever - like what kind of flying units we'd like to see. Even if you don't plan on using any of the information, for the love of god at least put up the polls. It will keep people here.
    • FORUM SELF-REGULATION. You can't have a censored community, so let the trolls and flamers do their thing. After a while they'll do something to get themselves banned. Make users moderators from within the ranks.

We're all here because we love C&C. A new studio gives you LIMITLESS opportunities. People will come here in the following months wanting to help. Let them.
