On mothers day- I took my mother out to lunch and we watched this movie. I dont want to give too much away or go into too many details, but you have Seth Rogen, the 2 writers from Shaun of the Dead, and the director of Superbad doing this parody of everything sci fi.
the plot is basically 2 British comic book writers go on a road trip to all the UFO encounter sites in the US after attending Comic- con, when they encounter an actual alien called "Paul" outside Area 51.
this movie is absolutely hilarious to anyone who knows their sci fi. There is lots of references to popular sci fi through the ages, and you even get to hear bits of gold like the 2 comic book writers speaking Klingon to each other to try and get the first hit in a fight, or when they visit the location where the famous Kirk vs Gorn fight scene took place and re-enact it. then there is Paul who absolutely steals the movie. He is extremely sarcastic, rude, is able to to do all sorts of neat tricks(but driving a vehicle is not one of them), and ironically- more human than the 3 people he encounters on his great escape. There are a few absolute classic scenes(for example- the argument with the hot bible bashing redneck daughter), and a few unforgettable outbursts. The only negative thing I really have to say about Paul is that it missed opportunities to develop into a far better climax, instead opting to make a right royal mockery out of the normal cliched ending you see in movies directed by Stepehn Spielberg(close encounters of the third kind, E.T for example), but with Sigourney Weaver(the QUEEN of movies starring aliens) as the villain there is a LOT of laughs to be had anyway.
was this movie a classic? hells yeah.
would I watch this movie again in the cinemas? again hell yeah.
If I were to rate it out of 10? it would earn a nice shiny silver medal at 9. The "three tits" gag will NEVER get old. I swear it on my life
