I could see where it'd get really addictive because it would be like a "Comp-stomp" kind of game, but asking the player to get creative on defeating the AI. Tossing out another idea, if you didn't want AI at all, maybe you could also have it where one or two people are given large pre-built factions, but they have to face a larger number of human opponents. This may not be as feasible, though; people have brought up the balancing issues with other topics, and I think that may well apply here too. But, I'm glad to see a few people might like it! Anyone have any other ideas on how to deploy an "instant join" atmosphere to the game? Of course, keeping in mind that there is a large "resource" of time in developing an army.

Maybe just give new player faster production rate for a few minutes to get up to speed?

What about that new players would come as reinforcements with MCV and few units you can choose (as escort),... but new players would have credits ( the credits would increase with the time that passed since the game started) they can use to pick units they want at the beginning............

For example: if you started from the beginning you would have just MCV, the guy that started 5 minutes later would have MCV and units of value as 4 predators, and another guy that started 20 minutes later would have MCV and units of value of 4 mammoth tanks.....

    What do you think

The guy joining later would get steamrolled in an instant.

Unless you give him an army actually capable of defending his position - which then makes the efforts the players the entire match kinda pointless, seeing they had to work for something the other player gets for free.

Sounds like this would be better suited to a C&C4 style game, where the new player would have spawn zone safety, point based victory conditions, etc.

Well hopefully the new AAA game will have multiple online game modes, like capture the flag, domination and then this feature can be added to those game modes only.

If you can't bother waiting in the lobby or play automatch or Campaign, then you can jump into these on-going game modes.

Again, I think slightly faster production would be workable.

What if C&C4 is a prequal expansion?

    But time line different.

IDK, makeing a system just for a mode may be frivolous.

I think having all of the capture the flag, king of the hill, etc. game modes might take away from the concept of returning to basics or going back to a classic feel (if you support that). I wouldn't mind having one or two of those, but I think I would rather have the most resource possible be put into recreating the old C&C in a newer engine. The production rate idea that Jist brought up would probably work best, although I'd suggest that the rate be weighted according to how many units are on the field, or according to what opponent "dollar amount" physically exists on the field at the time.

For the unit number, if opponents 1 and 2 have 10 tanks and 5 infantry/squads, then the new player would be able to build at a factor of 1+ 15/100, or 1.15 (arbitrary choice for illustration purposes). This could present problems because certain strategies involving more of a cheaper unit would be punished. For the "dollar amount" balancing, if opponents 1 and 2 effectively have an $800 power plant, 2 basic $500 tanks, and 1 $200 infantry/squad, then they have $2000 ahead of the new player in physical resource. Then, a scale could be used such as 1+ 2000/10,000 = 1.02. This is likely more feasible, as it would be derived from every player's starting resource amount and would correctly scale the "value" of pre-existing untis and structures.

Haha, I suppose so. That's of course assuming you don't start trolling my opinions again just to get something moved to "General Discussion" :P
