Since RA is being brought up in this thread a lot, I'd like to say that while I'm not a fan of rebooting the Tiberian continuity (save for T_T, that really needs to be written out of the canon if we want the tib series to continue), I would love to see a reboot of Red Alert with RA1 sensibilities.

What I mean by this is a semi-serious game with mostly realistic designs that bring out the few more outlandish technologies and just bits of off-beat, dark humour, rather than RA2 and RA3's method of making everything over the top and building the game for laughs from the ground up.

Would be nice if they even did 2 separate exe files, like MoH did... that was interesting. It's like you get 2 games for 1.

Exe 1 being the single player game, campaign + skirmish I presume. Only bug fixes.

Exe 2 being the online game, maybe also skirmish here too. Balance/bug/exploit fixes.

    And make both games awesome.

    ---

Got this idea when I played Uprising, would have been fun if Uprising would have been the single player exe, while original RA 3 being the online experience.

Well for C&C3, they explicitly said the balance for single player and multiplayer would be kept separate... and after a few balance patches the single player campaign became unplayable -_-

What's the problem with a game that doesn't take itself too seriously? Realism is quite-frankly boring, and far more often when games set out to do realism, they fall flat for being detached, clinical and having zero atmosphere. That's exactly what CnC3 was; realistic (to a degree) but utterly devoid of any emotion, atmosphere, life. That's what the over-the-top Red Alert 2 and 3 did so well. If I wanted realism, I'd go join the Army.

Realism brings angst, angst is catching, it gives the epic feeling to your setting, besides, there is a fundamental difference between RA2 decade and ours, back when RA2 was released war was something most NATO young people didnt know about, sure there were UN operations like Somalia but this was mostly known in retrospective by movies like Black Hawk Down, they were too young to remember the First Gulf War or the Cold War, so you could give a non-serious setting to a wargame, but after September 11, the war on terror, and with the emergence of regional conflicts, economical crisis and new world powers capable to match US and EU armies the idea of a comedic war is no longer easy to bring.

This is for example one of the reasons why modern warfare games have become so popular, similarly games which bring angst and psychological indeep, have become quite popular, with the general population paranoia increased in the last years you may not find strange why games like Dead Space and Black Ops which have as protagonists characters which suffer of mental dissorders are so popular, more to the point, it allows people channel their fear through enemies they can destroy without restrictions law and social regulation impose.

And finally, a realistic game allows a small part of you to believe, that what you are doing in game its possible, its not just a fantasy but a possibility of trascendance over normal life.
Live well. It is the greatest revenge... And be the salt and light of Earth.

I want a C&C game that would be gritty and somewhat realistic (so nothing like RA3 or TT) If C&C goes back to Tib series, I think another game around the Firestorm era would be great because there are still alot of questions left open ended.
Generals 2? Yeah its about damn time

We can have campy C&Cs, serious C&Cs. But at the heart of it all, we must have a game worthy of the title. Don't push too much of a narrow definition of the title C&C, it stifles creativity.

Yep. I get so tired of the old "What is C&C and what is not" argument. You don't get to define C&C for me and I certainly won't define it for you (that is not addressed to you Slavik I am now fully in soapbox mode ) it is up to each of us to make of it what we will. For some it is very restrictive, Tib universe only, every else is blasphemy. For others it is a bit wider.....

Lack of tolerance to others opinions is one of the oldest traditions of mankind, hehe.
