Squads or individual units? Or both?

    Subject:
In a battlefield, would you prefer squads or individual infantry units?

    Description:
Squads or individual units, or both?

Just thought of the Angry Mob in Generals, that was a squad unit, while every other unit was individual.
Maybe Nod could have something like that, Angry Militant Mob? While GDI have individual powerful Zone Troopers. And Scrin/Forgotten having horde/squad system for tiny aliens...

    Quick suggestion list:
GDI: (1) Zone Trooper (Powerful mean infantry units)
Nod: (5) Militant Squad (They are many, they come in squads)
Scrin: (8) Tiny Disintegrator armies... (Aliens, swaaarm the enemy!)

    Positive/Negative Effect:
Well, both have good and bad parts.
Squads look more realistic and pretty in a big warfare.
While individual units can be made stronger and more important.
For instance a squad of 10 Militants will have the same firepower as 1 individual militant unit. One looks more realistic while other looks more powerful.

I personally prefer individual units especially when there is really no significant difference outside of the visual.

Individual. Like methuselah said,if the only diffrence is visuals it makes nosense to have squads. And having individual units could reduce the amount of lag,if there was a significant amount of units.

I want Squads of MARVS!!!! Squds of Harvesters!

uh, but i prefer individual units, unless the system is actually involving a "Squad" which has mixed forces, so i'd rather have the option of putting individual units into a squad, upon which i can select tehm as if they were one unit.

But maybe squads for a few inf, like engineering squad, Medic team, sniper squad, etc.

From a military point of view it feels like it makes more sense commanding squads than individual units, but from a gameplay point of view it doesn't make much difference, but maybe there could be some interesting gameplay features having to do with squads, I dunno.

i like squads because they do add a sense of realism
but if they are to be used again they need to fix the bugs associated with squads in the sage engine, like those with ability execution (most notorious being the cyborg emp bugs in kw)

also balance the units stats sensibly please... no more nonsense with rocket inf with 10x the hp of riflemen just because theres more members per squad for the rifles.
stuff like that in cnc3 just nullified the sense of realism that came with squads.

Individual units are cool, yes, but using squads makes things slighty more realistic than single units. Then again, a squad of Commandos would be op.

I voted for the use of both; basic infantry, such as riflemen, rocket/missilemen, grenadiers and more advanced infantry like snipers could be as squads, and commando units single.

Squads can be very useful when used right, not only for a visuals but also gameplay.
First of, it helps even out unit costs and effectiveness, i.e. you don't have to build dozens of units anymore to do anything (as you can already bulk-order them).
Second, most importantly IMO, is that it adds a "hidden" modifier for splash/AoE damage. If a squad is hit with an AoE attack, every unit receives the damage, i.e. it is multiplied by the soldier number. This helps getting the infantry'ness across better and helps set them apart from vehicles, which are usually more vulnerable to direct attacks.

Combining the two systems to set apart elite infantry from grunts would probably be the best idea.

However, it is imperative that they make squads work bugfree. Even the ones in TW had quite some issues.

But guys think... this could be one fun way of faction diversity.

GDI having powerful individual zone trooper armored units, while Nod still uses Militant spam, and mobs, may get access to more powerful individual units later such as cyborgs.
And to be honest, I liked the Squad system for Scrin, it looked more dangerous when they had swarms of aliens... so Squads would work nicely with Scrin, while GDI have individual powerhouse units.

C&C 3 style squads. Except for commando and hero units of course.
