    Full motion videos & cutscenes

    Subject:
FMV's and cutscenes of futures C&C games

    Description:
I was viewing the ending video and some cutscenes of C&C4. I didn't like them too much. One of the things that really bothered me was the lack of props and environments used in them. The Global Stratospheric Transport interiors were well done, thumbs up for that, but hey, the game is set in the 2070's, and GDI soldiers use FN P90 sub-machine guns. The ending scene was shot somewhere outside EALA building, and there were cars of today parked by the road (see the media section for that)

For the next C&C game, cutscenes and FMV's should use proper props, especially when it comes to weapons and environments used in them. In case of a new Tiberium or Red Alert game, the prop department could create some weapons and props that seem proper for the era and the game. Generals game, simply using nowaday's rifles, machine guns, smg's, rocket launchers etc. is good.

One last thing: Ye olde games had lots of cutscenes, which were rather short, but showed units in action (see media section for that). I'd like to see more of them.

    Positive Effect:
Even though C&C games are not meant to be serious, proper props would add more realism into the game FMV's.

    Negative Effect:
Not sure, but most likely it would cost more money.

The cutscenes were for me always very important in C&C games, however after Firestorm all the game scenes were very disappointing, especially Generals.

Though I understand why the scenes in Generals disappointed me, because the game itself had no big storyline. It would however been awesome to have, for example, scenes with all those generals in action. Better than the freaking newsreporter everytime..

The thing that bothered me in Tiberium Wars and every game after, is that the characters in the cutscenes were talking to you. And especially in C&C 4 it was horrible. I have never played T_T, but seeing the cutscenes with that women crying about you were absolutely horrible. The scenes however with Anton Slavik, Kane and Oxanna, but also on GDI with McNeal and Soloman were awesome. Like you were watching a movie.

Besides that, as the person above me already stated, the lack of props and environment will make the cutscenes even worse. I have seen the videos of the C&C 4 set thing, well made. But if you make other mistakes, like the one in my personal opinion here above, the lack of props and environment and also bad acting, a good studio with a good set won't help anymore.

The older cutscenes where they showed the units in action was what made them more memorable for me because in some missions it would show units either winning the battle or getting blown up because you failed. I would like to see a return of them in a future game.
