If anything, a Generals or Generals-like C&C game should focus on a different kind of GLA, not just middle-eastern terrorists, but rather something more akin to the Consortium in Act of War, where, yes, they do have access to all these rebel factions in the middle east and terrorists, but are uncentralized, sort of like The Brotherhood of Nod, and are even associated to certain large oil, technology & military companies, PMCs and even some corrupt affiliations to 1st World countries. (Another example would be the Order of Nations from "End of Nations", but much less high-tech.) In terms of factions, I'd like see something like a standardized NATO (IE similiar to the Allies in RA2 and RA3), China (Where did it say they were Communist?), and some Consortium-like faction; Sort of like what Generals was originally going to have in its alpha version.
Additionally, I'd like: Live-Action, some sci-fi elements, a mysterious enemy (Think Kane, Yuri, CABAL, where you don't fully understand their motives, but not as cliche nor focused on a single person/entity), focusing on characters and political aspect story-wise, etc. Basically, something that could be akin to TD, TW, RA and RA2.
I could like it, then.
And I don't agree that the gameplay was very unique. It was much like StarCraft, and elements of it remained in C&C3. (The loathsome Tank spam...gah. Though that was also in RA1 and RA2.)
What I disliked: Ugly textures for: vehicles, terrain, most structures, infantry (I'm looking at you, GLA Rebel), no real story mode, no faction identity in terms of lore, overuse of Nukes & toxins. (China? Nukes? They're not North Korea, or terrorists, you know...)
