    Question Worldbuilder Crash

Recently I wanted to give thr C&C3 Worldbuilder a try, and I wanted to make a big map.

    I resized the map to 750 x 750, and then ... crash!

Immediately I tried to restart, but since then every time I want to start WB, it loads the RAM to its max!

As soon it reached the 2,99 GB border, it crashes. I cannot start it up anymore - and despite of any attempt to close all other programs running, everything, even the explorer.exe.
No matter how stressed the computer is, it crashes anyway.

I also tried to reinstall it, deleting it automatically, manually, also deleting the WB-Data files, deleting the error-log ...
With no result. Everytime I try to start it, it shows the message "game crash" and mentions it doesn't have enough main storage. Great. 3 GB storage is not enough?!

Yes, I got the 1.9 version of TW. And yes, it is the latest version of the WB.

If anyone got any clue how this problem could be solved, I'd be really grateful.

    Thanks in advance.

What about deleting the registry entries of the WB? :P

Worldbuilder is extremely memory intensive, and virtual memory never seems to be good enough for it.

I don't know how to fix your main problem, but, if you do manage to get into the program, BEFORE opening any map you need to set the LOD (Level of detail) to low. I have 2gb ram, and i can't even open any map unless it is set to low, otherwise it crashes with out of memory / access violation error.

If the settings are in a file somewhere in the C&C3 directory, maybe manually editing it to set the level of detail to low will allow you to get into the program, but it's a long shot.

Yep! Found it, set LOD at value 1, an voilá, it works!

    Thanks for your help!

BTW ... 750 x 750 is indeed HUGE!!! No wonder it takes that much RAM!

I also recommend increasing the virtual memory in your hard drive if your physical RAM isn't enough to run WB and create huge maps.

Mine still crashed with 3gb of virtual memory available lol. Either it easily fills up 5gb of memory or it is unstable with virtual memory...or maybe a bit of both! This is of course unless i have LOD on the lowest setting, which is perfectly good enough to use anyway i find.

    Worldbuilder doesn't use virtual memory.
