    Exclamation Command and Conquer loading and saving error windows 7 64 bit

    Hi

    I wonder if anyone can help!!

    I am playing command and conquer generals on my PC, which runs fine on my windows 7 64bit machine, however when i go to save the game the game closes out to windows and i get an error box comes up saying technical difficulties, sorry a serious error occurred!!

    This is so frustrating as i cant play the whole game without saving.

    I have tried running the game as administrator, going into the files and changing read write option for all admin and users and even even changed the ini file in the c&c folder and nothing works.

    I used to play it on my xp system and worked fine but it wont work on my windows 7 system

    I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit
    Intel Core quad Q8300 AT 2.50 Ghz
    4 Gig of memory
    NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT

    Nothing is wrong with the game play on i cant save and hence i cant load

    Any help would be appreciated!!

    If you REALLY want this to work, try the following:
    -Re-install the game and hope it fixes its self.
    -Run it on Windows XP.
    -Give up
    From what I have seen, this error come and goes randomly but only appears on Windows VISTA and 7 working fine on XP.

    Run the game in XP compatibility mode.

    The truth is, that the game doesnīt work properly on win 7 - 64 bit, and it probably never will as EA games refuse to offer any good support for it (beleave me, iīve treid and they just donīt care, customers apparently arenīt valuable to them). The only thing you can do is tinker with the game until it works semi fine and crashes the least while playing. Iīve tried every trick in the book and there is non that absolutely works, i thought though for a moment few days ago, that i had found a permanent solution to the problem, and was going to share the solution on a torrent, but no... it turned out to be false alarm, i will though continue to search for the solution, but i doubt it will ever be made as EA ignores this problem and hides behind windows xp but still sells the game, which then in return, ticks of people when they discover that they canīt run it on win 7 100%. I think EA should just man up and release a patch that fixes the game and makes it compatible and fixes the multiplayer also, that would make SOOOOO many people happy, this is a huge issue in the Generals community!

    First of all, patch to 1.04 before trying anything below.

    You could try and uninstall the game, go to the registry and delete every zero hour entry and install again, do not use the cd crack as it sometimes makes the game malfunction.

    There are few solutions you can also try, like insert into the options.ini;

    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\options.ini
    AntiAliasing = 0
    DrawScrollAnchor =
    FirewallBehavior = 0
    GameSpyIPAddress = 192.168.0.1 (make sure you use your own IP)
    Gamma = 50
    IPAddress = 192.168.0.1 (make sure you use your own IP)
    IdealStaticGameLOD = High
    LanguageFilter = false
    MoveScrollAnchor = 0
    MusicVolume = 61
    Resolution = 800 600
    Retaliation = yes
    SFX3DVolume = 58
    SFXVolume = 53
    ScrollFactor = 60
    SendDelay = no
    StaticGameLOD = lOW
    UseAlternateMouse = no
    UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
    VoiceVolume = 70

    There was also a theory that if you installed the game on windows xp and copied the data folder from the generals zero hour folder to the win 7 generals zero hour folder (deleted the data folder and inserted the "win xp" data folder), it would solve some problems, and it really did for quite some time for me, but started to crash again recently. This also actually messed up the mod i had installed, that is, the AI that the mod had, which was kind of obvious but, hey... if youīre going to try this, then there will be side effects.

    You can also check if you have sufficient rights to the game folder (right click, properties, security and choose your user and edit the user rights).

    It is also not recommended to install the game to program files as itīs more restricted in Win 7, hence the access violations that occur sometimes.

    and of course, run in compatibility mode (win xp sp 3) and run as admin and disable visual themes.

    If you want the game to load a little bit faster you can add into the shortcut -noshellmap (like if you had "C:\games\generals.exe" in the shortcut, you could do this instead "C:\games\generals.exe" -noshellmap).

    and you could go extreme and disable all programs that windows runs on boot up and restart and see if the game is more stable.

    I got this "fix" from EA games, to run only one CPU while playing the game, that didnīt do anything.

    aaand to top this all of, be sure to have installed DX9 or directx 9.0c, else the game wonīt work (well.. actually, it requires DX8.1, but DX9.0c is better).

    and there are loads of other fixes that íve tried, these are only few of them and some have worked, like the options.ini, registry cleaning and the data folder copying, but like iīve said before, Generals zero hour and generals just desnīt work properly on win 7 and probably never will.

    This is actually one of the most common errors you could get by running zero hour in windows 7 64 bit;

    Release Crash at Wed Jun 08 15:05:36 2011

    Current stack:

    EA games knows of this but donīt do anything about it, maybe Victory games will do something??? This is actually also happening in the lord of the ring: battle for middle earth, which is, as i understand, just an upgraded version of the SAGE engine, so this isnīt just zero hour that is behaving like this.
