New type of worker style construction

    Subject:
If the game is Gen2 (or some other C&C with worker style construction) then I think the following method would be pretty good.

    Description:
Basically, there would be a 3rd resource in the game aside from power and credits. That 3rd resource would be building supplies. Now I realize Generals used Supplies for their economy, but these supplies would function separately.

Basically, the construction yard would hold onto these supplies and your workers would have to commute back and forth between the construction yard and the building site. What this means is that apart from how large/important/expensive the structure is (larger structures would take a longer time to build), the further the structure is from the construction yard means the longer it will take workers to commute back and forth with supplies and the longer it will take the build it.

This means that if you want to make a structure far away from your main base it will be much harder and much more risky. You would either need to pack up and move your construction yard (if it is mobile) or create a new supply depot (new structure to hold supplies, similar to Tiberium/Ore silos) where workers could get supplies from closer to the construction zone.

    Positive Effect:
-Adds a new resource and structure to the game to make it fresh and new.
-Allows players to use more strategy when constructing their base.
-Adds a new resource to the game and thus more strategical weak points for your opponent for you to harass.
-Makes early game progress much faster. Structures will be built in closer proximity which means their uses will be available to the player much quicker.
-Would theoretically make expansion bases much more effective than they would be if there was no drawback to building far away.

    Negative Effect:
-Makes it more risky to build spread out structures.
-Commuting workers present a vulnerability if you don't have the support units around to defend them.
-Makes the main base of each player easier to destroy since all the structures will likely be very close.

One thing I forgot to mention is that if you order a lot of workers to construct a building, they would obviously be able to hold more supplies than if there were fewer workers. So that means the more workers you have constructing a structure, the more supplies can be moved at a time and thus the faster you can construct the building.

So, say you wanted to make a structure far away from your main base. Your best bet would be to allocate a bunch of workers, load them up with supplies from your construction yard, and then move them across the field. The more workers you order to do this, the more supplies they can move. If you use enough, you won't need to have any of them go back to the construction yard for more supplies.

    Very interesting........

However, you may need to keep in mind, the player is also meant to collect minerals and stuff for their credit system, so if you need to collect building materials as well as a separate resource, it may be a little more micro and macro intensive.

Overall, I still like the idea tho.

Also, iit would need to be coded as an entirely different resource, something sage isn't able to keep track of right now...unfortunately.

Then perhaps the supplies would double as the game's credits?

Everything from unit creation to structure construction would require these supplies. They would be stored at construction yards or supply depots where workers would load up on them and bring them to where they are needed. If a worker dies in transit, you lose the supplies until they can be recovered by another unit.

OR, perhaps the economic resource which makes credits could be used to "purchase" supplies and store them in construction yards and supply depots? It's an small little extra step when making a structure, but forces you think more about how you are spending your money. What money will you use to purchase supplies with and how much can you leave for yourself to purchase vehicles with?

The problem with that is expansion. You don't want to have your workers go back and forth. Esp if you do something sneaky, that is what made Generals good, you could build some sneaky stuff all over the map.

You can still do that, but it would just be a more risky tactic if you don't fully commit to it. Plus I've already explained some ways that expanding far outside your base could work.

Could work but it's already very hard to sneak something in, no need to make it any harder then that.

It's possible in sage. Everything is possible in sage. EA just codes it in. Something like a new resource is very very simple.
