It was talking about the franchise not the specific game.

Actually, they don't mention what it's legendary for, exactly...

i still think the c&c1 html5 game seemed better for gameplay, since it was pretty much identical to the real version. why cant this be more like that?

Because pretty browser graphics are better than gameplay. Duh.
    /end sarcasm

Looks not so great to be honest =( I'll wait on Generals 2 and replay Generals 1 while I am at it. When will developers get it that gameplay > graphics?

It can't be like that the same reason renegade multiplayer can't be the same as cnc1 gameplay. In this case it's because rather than the traditional RTS definition of strategy this is a game based around grand strategy where diplomacy and the position of your base on the globe matters just as much as (if not more) how you control your units. It's just as easy to define it as another genre altogether as it is to say it's RTS.

Since the world is persistant that means you can attack/be attacked at any time. If you were attacked when you are offline you would be at a tremendous disadvantage since the computer is incapable of doing as well as a human player. The design compromise to solve this issue is that players can exert little control over battles once they start. That they managed to distill so much of the essence of cnc into the game is a tremendous achievement imo.
