    DirectX Error from C&C3 from Steam

    Hey, I just bought C&C 3 from Steam, but I keep getting this error message even though my tests of my Direct X are doing fine. Any suggestions are appreciated. Check the pics for my system numbers.

    Yes I tried running as Administrator, I have Direct X 11 on Windows 7 64-bit. As far as I know Steam downloads the latest version of the game, so I shouldn't need a new patch, right?

    Try these;

    Install the latest DirectX9 updates:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

    and the latest C&C 3 patch:
    http://www.commandandconquer.com/com...s/default.aspx

    Latest Drivers: (choose localisation and then click drivers and scan if you cant fill in boxes)
    http://www.nvidia.com/

    and make sure you run as admin like you said.

    could be that steam didnt update ur directX9 correctly after installing the game.

    For the Direct X9 update, it asks where to extract the files. Is there a standard place to put the new files?

    What exactly is it it's extracting? The installation files? If so, you should be able to just extract it anywhere.

    Yeah, it was the files. Fortunately it turned out that it was an NVIDIA driver, so it all works now. I was surprised since Windows Update usually takes care of those.

    I got the same direct X error when I first installed C&C 3 to my new computer with 64-bit Windows 7. Installing the latest patch for the game fixed the issue.

    it should, but this is one of the reasons why I mark steam down as a bad bit of software... It doesn't always successfully patch games. well it happens a lot less than manually patching the games yourself

    Use Torrents? I know what you have downloaded. click my sig for proof

    Steam patches your games provided the developers released that patch specifically for steam again. This also happened with crysis 2 demo with crytek releasing 2 patches but only for manual instal, the steam version wouldn't update them because they didn't upload them to steam.

    A similar issue might have happened with c&c 3 as well, so be sure to download the latest patch first.
