    Left Click for Orders support

    Subject:
Support of «Left Click for Orders» mouse scheme

    Description:
Classic C&C games used Left click for orders like Move, Attack, Harvest, etc. C&C Generals had some support too.

With later games it wasn't working good, mostly because stuff was selected if it can't be attacked/garrisoned/etc.

    How it should work:
    • When you got your units selected:
      • Ignore selection of friendly, neutral and enemy units. Only units that belong to You can be selected. If you can't attack/garrison/capture friendly/enemy/neutral units, then clicking on them moves your units to the last known position of that unit.
      • If Multiple Units selection line (aka Press LMB and move the cursor) don't have your units inside, it should be threated as order at current cursor position.
      • Left Click at Radar issues orders to that spot, no selection at all! Right click moves camera there.
    • When you got friendly/neutral/enemy, or no units selected:
      • Left Click Selects Friendly/Neutral/Enemy units.
      • Left Clicking at empty area doesn't deselect friendly/enemy/neutral units, if they were selected.
      • Left and Right Clicks at Radar moves camera there

    Positive Effect:
This should make «Left Click for Orders» mouse scheme useful, and even popular, instead of annoying.

    Negative Effect:
Do i really need to write negative effects of optional mouse scheme?

Actually, I find using the left mouse button for everything even less convenient.
You use the left mouse button to select units and buildings. A problem I've had with Generals is clicking on one unit, and then trying to click another, and then sending that unit that I had clicked before over to that position, instead of clicking on another thing.

Also, every C&C since Generals has featured an option to switch to the "Left Mouse Button" scheme. No problem for those who like the right mouse button style, and no problem for those who like the left mouse button style.

I'd rather keep the traditional system (left click for all) and have right click as an option for those who want it...

That is exactly what we have... just the other way around. I don't see the point in changing it.

So this idea kinda makes the left click become sticky of some sort after you select your own units or not (friendly/neutral/enemy).

Left+Right click = camera movement? Sounds more harder compared to blizzards middle click for camera movement (it feels awkward for the first time)

I'm fluent with both settings actually. I can transition from one to the other with no difficulty since I switch back and forth between C&C games very frequently.

Given the option, I usually keep whatever happens to be the default setting. In terms of practicality, I think the Right Click Orders makes things more organized, but can confuse some people (it certainly confused me the first time I tried it after years of playing RA2 and Gens with default settings).

Because my first RTS was C&C I have the natural habit of left-clicking on everything. Please keep it as an option AT THE LEAST.

Modern RTS games seem to use right-clicking for movement and left-clicking for selection more often. The last I recall, EA has given the option to switch back. I'm sure the option will still be there.

And, if it's not, then you can always adapt.
