    Friendly Forum Reminders

Hello, members of the C&C community! This is only a minor heads-up about a few things that will make it so that you get more attention and respect on this forum, so that you can really contribute.

#1: Read the post before commenting/voting on it.
If you wish to make any sort of contributing comment to a post, I would recommend reading an entire post before posting yourself. If you don't want to but want to contribute, then at least skim through it so that you know what everybody's talking about. Comments such as "Too long, did not read" will not be acceptable. If you do do that, don't expect any positive attention or respect in this community. In fact, don't expect any at all.

    #2: Grammar is important!
You may not think so, but proper grammar is important, and, as you will find, very convenient to use. One would find somebody who is willing to take the time to type a proper sentence more respectable than someone who says "lol" and skps letrs wen tiping, not caring about whether somebody has to translate what they're saying in their head, as though they were trying to translate Russian (or translate Russian to English, or whatever language you speak to English...you get the idea).

#3: Use complete sentences that flow into each other.
Complete and flowing sentences are another part about being understood. Basically, you need to finish your sentences, and they need to lead into each other. If they are not leading into each other, then you should space them apart with the "Enter" key.

#4: Punctuation MUST NOT take a vacation!
I don't care if your periods are home sick and need to be replaced with spare question marks, you need to have periods where you need them! Same thing with question marks, exclamation points, comas, hyphens (-), colons and semicolons (: and ; ), etc.

Here's an example: I want the next game to have base building??? I am not a psychopath?? I'm not trolling you??
Does that make any sense to you? 'Cause it makes none to me. Even though you're getting your message across, you aren't delivering it as well as it could be.
Instead of having all of those question marks that you so dearly love, call up your sick periods and place them properly, or, if you must or feel you should, set up some exclamation points.
Here is an example of some cleaned-up sentences: I want the next game to have base building. I am not a psychopath. I'm not trolling you!

#5: Speak (type) your thoughts truthfully and professionally.
If you have a compliment, then say it. Whether it's professional or not doesn't matter that much.
However, when you are talking negatively or down to someone, then you should speak professionally. If there person does not type out his sentences well, then you will feel superior to him, and if he speaks professionally as well, then you would feel as though you have an even match.

#6: Accept it when another person puts up a good counterargument.
So, somebody just disproved your idea. Should you be mad about that? No, you should not. If the person has logically explained why something would/wouldn't work, or something along those lines, and you have found no real flaws, then you should submit to the person's argument and, as I like to say it, "Exit the doomed train." This may seem bad if you are abandoning other people on that train, but it's their decision to stay on that train, and it would be a lot better to survive than explode with them.
What I do is, if my argument has failed, switch to the other person's side. I for one will not support an argument if there is no logic or point to it.

    EDIT:#7: Declare your edits!
It isn't a very big deal, but sometimes it can be good to show which part of your post has been edited, so that people aren't confused with later arguments.

EDIT 2:#8: No Racism, Sexism, or "poking fun"!
While I personally feel that peolpe shouldn't take racist jokes seriously (especially when they aren't aimed at them), but when it comes to insults, people have the right to have a problem with it, and they likely will. The very least that could happen is the person you were making fun of ignoring you, and your reputation in general going down. Very far down.

EDIT 3: #9: Put spaces after your periods, comas, semicolons, colons, etc.
Notice how I have been doing this throught this post. You may find it more convenient to leave them out, but doing it makes your text much easier to read. Besides, if you integrate it into your writing (typing), then it will become a regular thing, and you'll do it automatically.
Basically, it can change "Cannot process wall of text." into "That's an easy read!"

EDIT 4: #10: Get your message out, but be succinct!
To those of you not as well educated as I (ha!), succinct means short and to the point. So, basically, make your posts short and to the point! If your posts need to be long, then make them long; but don't make them any longer than they need to be!

That's all for now. Tell me if you want anything else up here! (You can even write an entry yourself, if you like. Just put it in my inbox, and I will tell you if I approve or not. If I approve, then you will see your entry up shortly!)

You read that guys? Take it to your heart, epecially #2 and #4!

And it is a shame we have to remind people of such fundamentals ... which raises the question on why exactly you felt the need to remind everybody?

Did I miss something or is this a pre-emptive strike at the illaterate masses?

    edit2://
Add post edits to that list. I hate it when people unnecessarily double/triple/quadruple post just because they are seemingly incapable of simply editing one damned post.

    I thought the same thing.

I've asked recently if they needed moderators, and I offered myself, but they said they didn't need any, and that if they did, they already have people in mind. I'm guessing I'm not one of them, neither are any of you. :/

yes everything seems to be fine with that (apart from the wrong word, made rather than mad. in the 1st line of point no.6)

i will admit that my typing ability isn't the best with punctuation but i do what i can to make it legible when i do post.

HA! Shortbus was freely trolling the forums for an endless amount of time on the day after a new CnC game was announced with hardly any mod in sight, no need for additional moderators my @ss!

P.S. I'd think you'd make a very good mod, one of the best probably, it's a shame they didn't have you in mind.

Tell that to EA_CIRE, Elearen, Seraph, methuselah, stephanovich, Cypher and CNCGeek101, because they most likely don't agree with the idea of making me a mod. :P

And I don't blame them, I've done some trollish things before. I'm always EA Shortbus' target, some might even see things get better around here without me around for him to target, and I have indeed leaked pictures of a few cancelled Scrin units from the C&C4 beta back in late 2009, when I reckon that that kind of information was not meant to be released to public.

I also have far too many opinions and the moderators generally know I'm not always right and that when I say something wrong, everyone will start acting as if it is fact anyway, because of how I'm seen around here. I'm sure some of the moderators would just rather have me not say anything at all rather than say something and get everyone all worked up. So making me a moderator would not be, in their vision, a good thing.

I also got a warning on this forum last month for using an expression that could be seen as hate speech, which I think also got on Seraph's bad side.

Basically I'm too opiniated and not serious enough. Despite that, I'd definitely be willing to act more professionally and removed. Though I probably won't be able to voice my opinions, much less say anything remotely negative or subjective about anything related to EA. (eherm...C&C4 and Origin)

Or it might just be because you posted an off-topic thread in the Generals 2 section.
