C&C Red Alert issues

So I recently downloaded C&C RA after hearing it was freeware, I had problems with it installing on my PC due to the fact I am using Windows 7..I have fixed that problem however, now though when I run the RA95.exe file to install the game, it will start up but the colour will be all fuzzy and disoriented, it also won't go past the first screen...any idea what's wrong?

Try putting the exe into Win xp sp3 or older compability mode.

I have this same problem except I only can't get past the first screen. Just an empty text box with OK and a blacked out Cancel option. Please help. Tried all compatibility modes lower than XP sp3
