Thoughts on a successful rts design as derived from Generals 1

    Do the simple things right.

EA had seriously problems with each CNC game since Generals. Gen 2 is a great chance to bring the franchise back and grow it larger.

#1 - No deadline date - this is imperative - the devs need the time to polish this game. Previous iterations of the genre from the owners of the CNC franchise were far to aggressive and the quality suffered. You take a game like RA3 and compare it to Gens 1. Gens had 4v4, RA3 had only 3v3. That can not happen again. Take Generals and improve, do not take a step back.

#2 - Do the things you do well and stick with them. Generals was a solid, simple RTS game with great pace. In comparing it to RA3 - I think it's clear that Generals was a better play in terms of execution and strategy.

#3 - Patches, Support... it's got to be there. You must remove disconnects. In following point #2, this aspect must be polished on day 1. That may mean dropping gamespy - I don't know. Cheating has to be mitigated as well. Can't have another RA3 like issue with that Tijuana Core problem.

I think the modern warfare angle in Generals really plays well, but the gameplay and multiplayer need to stay crisp. The above list is the basic stuff. Hopefully this thread can expand into some of the underlying needs of the game. Super excited for the frostbite engine - it runs silky smooth online in bf3, hopefully they can do the same in Gens2.

It isn't. Stop stating the obvious and making mini essays on it. While I approve of some of the things you said I'm also sick to death of you making mini-essays.

This thread doesn't even have a point up for discussion, it's utterly pointless, especially how you're telling paid professionals how to do their job constantly.

We don't know, maybe they just have learned there current crew how this new engine works, and did they only put it in a new name, so we should accept it a bit better. Sure it could be that it has an other team, who knows... but still advice could even the newbies on C&C RTS use . They are maybe programming professionals, but that does not mean they are C&C professionals. (however even the old team (or maybe the same team) did look like they where missing the whole C&C spirit with there last release.)

But this is BioWare. They're no the same team. And they may not know how CnC works but cut them some slack, they're good developers and listen to the community (although DA2 was meh).

We have heard that before, oh wait C&C4... advise is there to preventing EA Games from repeating there failure.
