I think the main problem is EA tried to make C&C easier to play and failed at it. whatever you do you shouldn't touch the basics like collect--build-spend-fight-win. If you do then your product wont be a C&C game. it'll be something else like End War or CoH. in fact they're both cool games in their ways but you know it just doesnt fit in C&C title.

Simply put, Command&Conquer 4 can be described as one thing: a travesty. Where it went wrong? - When it crawled out of whichever twisted mind thought it might earn EA some dosh...

It might actually have been decent, had it not required one to be constantly online, and contained a horrible unlock-system which completely breaks multiplayer and skirmish.

However, the true horror is the utter absence of the large-scale battles offered by all previous C&C titles - introducing a unit cap - and particularly one as low as in this case, is the worst thing that has ever happened to C&C - and you don't even get the satisfaction of utterly destroying your opponent anymore, as the game is based around a "command-point" system, essentially ripped from Dawn of War...

in summary, the best thing I can say for the game is that, as I didn't buy it at launch, I got it fairly cheaply - though ít still felt like a waste of money, and something I essentially regretted having supported financially.

Enough about C&C 4. The big question, the one EA has been asking in making this forum, is: where to go from here?

The answer is essentially VERY simple: Return Command&Conquer to its roots.

1: Remove the unit cap, instead letting available resources serve as a practical constraint.
2: Bring back the fast-paced, large-scale battles that has made the C&C franchise work for roughly a decade
3: implementing some sort of upgrade system might be a fun idea, provided it isn't executed as horribly as we saw in C&C4, where you essentially had to spend a bunch of hours unlocking everything, before you could properly enjoy the game - essentially reducing the upgrade-system to a pointless grind.
4: Most people on this forum seem to assume that C&C 4 is the starting-point for any discussion, assuming in the process that we're bound to be plagued by unit-caps and crawlers in a possible sequel - this will, hopefully, NOT be the case. This whole forum was started by EA in recognition of the fact that C&C4 was - in a word - a travesty.

I am arguing vehemently for a return to the roots of C&C - bring back the harvest/build/attack formula, that made the series the king of RTS from Dune II to C&C 3 - as one who has played every iteration of Dune and C&C that has been since then, I can't help but feel sad about what C&C 4 did to one of the greatest RTS franchises in history...

in short: make it C&C - not some DoW rip-off...

This game should have been spun off as a new CNC franchise as it was originally intended "Command and Conquer - Respawn"

It would have made a fantastic and epic arena DOTA styled game. If you think about it, it is very much like dota minus individual heroes.

CNC4 should have been called Tiberium Dusk as it was the end of the Tiberium Saga.

The franchise should have stuck to refining the classic interface and producing a game worthy of the franchise as the last game, people would be playing it for decades to come.

The story should have been written to set earth as being undersieged by the scrin and being defended by both the GDI and NOD. Kane, utilising the Scrin tech, tried to escape earth, where he was exiled to as a transdimensional interstellar being. In his successful escape, he regains the powers stripped of him when he was exiled to earth, which he then uses to obliterate the scrin and remove the tiberium elements from earth.

This game would have been finalised with a prequel expansion of sorts, detailing the events leading to kane's exile to earth and him guiding the human race in their development, to one day bring about his escape from his prison.

This is how i see CNC as it should have been. It would have been epic and memorable. However you cannot take back what has already been made, thou the fans would be likely to think otherwise :P

I hope you all like my version of how things should have gone. Please let me know if anyone is interested in my story.

i believe the lack of mod support ruined it for the non believers.
    i like the hit/miss system in c&c4
i like the crawlers, but not more than base building.
calling it arena would have been cool if the scrin were involved like the video we all saw.
but i recall not too many people liking sole survivor.
kanes story was odd, didnt like how EA turned him into the pope between firestorm and tib wars.
more game modes would have been nice, it still makes me mad that my c&c4 case lies to me everytime i read it.
A new C&C??? How about you fix the bugs you have already, instead of creating new ones? Give us modding back. I've been modding C&C since '95/'96. It's the reason I play C&C aside from the Soviets and Nod. Go RED team! Generals was a bigger mistake that C&C 4, even Sole Survivor had more action.

We use word like... who cares.... and boring!

stop nagging about this game. TT is still very tacktical, easy and fun. if you prefer the old formula then play TW or KW instead. sticking to the old concepts doesnt work all the time. it would be another boring game if they choose to go with the tiberium collecting and base biulding. i think the game is fun and change is always good. now deal with it
Actually in game i'm known as `pinnacle33' (just to let you know)

There are 2 types of Changes:
    1. Change that is an improvement to the past (building on past concepts)
    2. change that is completely different from the past. (Adding entirely New things)

A good game has a mixture of both, but leans to one or the other.

TT was marketed as 1, but was clearly 2.

The Marketing department should have know that veteran fans prefer 1.

So there was the lie, they knew it was 2, but called it 1, you only do that to deceive in an effort to take advantage of a loyal community.

That is the biggest travesty of TT, they lied about it, and they knew it. And as soon as we saw it, we knew it.
In doing that, EA lost the little bits of trust they had, given the Westwood past.

It doesn't matter how good you think TT is as a game, and how fun you personally think it is, in the macro scale, it was a failure, just because of the above fact.

In fact, numerous times people have said they like a bunch of the features in TT. And think they were good ideas, But there was always the overall uneasiness.

To add insult to injury, the lie it self fell flat. So flat it created a black hole.

If Generals 2 doesn't restore this trust, then I for see a full on collapse of the franchise, only sustained by modding, which is already scarce.

I always liked C&C, second only to Warcraft, but a close second. And I've been playing the hell out of Red Alert 3 for a couple years. Finally I thought I'd go ahead and buy the new installment and I have to say I wanted to give it back 30 minutes after the download finished. No base building, not resource gathering, no tec research, weird animations, small scale fighting. I'm more than a little angry that my money is gone for good. I feel a little betrayed and I just don't know if I'll give another C&C a chance.

I have heard that EALA has worked on the another game. Then somebody stoped working on it and EALA quickly make that C&C4. This game was called Command & Conquer: Arena. For me, The best CnC games is Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium wars and Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath. But I think Westwood studios could make Tiberium wars better than EA.
