    Where C&C 4 wen't wrong?

In this thread feel free to discuss where Tiberian Twilight went wrong. In my personal opinion the things that went wrong were:

    • Departure from the Classic Formula - This is probably the most important part. Moving away from the classic formula of what C&C had built over the many years is probably what led to the game being not as great as the others. Not having base building, resource collecting, and other things; Was like a slap to the face for all the fans who played the series from the beginning.
    • Bad Ending for Kane - In all our minds Joe Kucan/Kane has come to represent an important almost landmark part of the series. Appearing in all the Tiberium games since the first one that was released back in the 1990's. He has become a fan favorite and deserved a way better ending then the ones that we got at the end of C&C4.
    • Population Cap - It just didn't work and was way to low for it to be considered a C&C game. Compared to the other major RTS games on the market, C&C has always been a game that I enjoyed to play since you could have almost infinite units on the map. The population cap just ruined the appeal of the game and I didn't play it that long after it was released.

What is your opinion on where C&C 4 went wrong?

    StormWolf:
If we operate purely on logical level of gameplay that matters to everyone
Count gameplay features that you in TT lost in comparison to predecessors (base building, base siege, etc. just many) vs new gameplay enchancing features which you get in exchange, it's as simple as that.

art direction going cartoony was a big issue for me. bubble tanks are not right at all for c&c games
    no base building
(the crawler mechanic would of been fine for me if it had been 1 game mode of many.)
    resource mechanic was aweful
it had gotten rid of a whole faction scrin
    no mirror matches
    the story was baaaad..
    constant online for everything

Simply loss of the feeling of a traditional C&C game (bases, harvesting, no pop cap). Lack of mod SDK for modders, online required to play. Kane wasn't enough bad *** as he was in earlier games.

I think it'd be easier to assert the things it did right:

    Most of the soundtrack.

    That's it.

I didn't like the soundtrack. I did like the intro video. Well, actually I should say I liked the first 10 -20 seconds of it, where the Orcas fly around and EVA talks to the pilots, just because Orcas, especially the C&C3 version, are so cool. After that, I didn't really care.

But didn't the drawing board include the Scrin and stuff? It sounded pretty good actually.

Honestly I think the only MAJOR mistake was calling it "Command and Conquer 4"
Imo the game itself is a fantastic way of creating a truly "multiplayer" RTS game, kinda reminded me of Shattered Galaxy and is why I played the beta for as long as I did.

This game should have been an off-shoot (Command and Conquer Tiberium Twilight) leaving Command and Conquer 4 to follow in the lines of it's predecessors and actually end the story properly!
I think Starcraft 2 may have been the reason for such a drastic decision
