The Warlike History of Command & Conquer

From the fine folks at IGN Entertainment. I just put this on the Gens2 Wiki and thought some of you might find it interesting

Interesting indeed, I didn't remember that Louis Castle and Brett Sperry started WW in a garage

It was quite a good read, but where I vastly disagree with is...

But 1999 brought the series' first major setback—the long awaited sequel, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Reviewers accused it of being too similar to its predecessors in a time when the RTS genre was fielding impressive competition like Starcraft

How on earth is Tiberian Sun so similiar to its predecessors?? I really don't get this, the game is completely different.

    - There are entirely new units in the game, nothing like in TD.
    - The maps and graphics are very different.
    - The music went from jukebox to calm ambient music
    - The story has expanded a lot. Lots of new characters added with real life celeberties.
    - They added so many more strategies to win against each other
    - They introduced epic units. And new tiberium wildlife

If any game is too similiar to its precessor, look at SC2.

^ My guess is that they didn't like that the gameplay was too similar to TD. I've also heard that the multiplayer experience isn't very fun, and I recall not liking the one skirmish match that I tried. However, I like the campaign quite a bit.

That said, however, I must say that either C&C 3, Generals, or RA2 is my most favorite C&C game.

I loved TS, absolutely loved it, but revisiting it years later the multiplayer is rather slow. The maps are gargantuan, I hate the shroud, and it seems like forever before any significant conflict can be had. Having said that TS is still wonderful.

Just not as wonderful as I thought it was in its heyday.

Red Alert 2 is my favorite C&C game of all time, I played it for many years until RA3 was released. I still play the First Decade version of RA2 and gotta say it is a game that I will look back on and remember the good times I had when I was younger.

I am a huge RA3 fan as well. I will occasionally play a match and to this day the unit sounds bring a smile to my face. The personality infused in the various units of RA2 because of how well the units sounds are done is amazing. I have found myself comparing every C&C since then and found them all lacking in that aspect. Don't get me wrong, C&C has brought me lots and lots of fun since then but nothing stands up to RA2.

    "Already there!"

There are still good times to be had in RA 2.

TS got the scores back then because it was a "Late to the Party" thing. As for being similar, 1997 to 2001 we had a big RTS game flood occur and I always disagreed with reviewers on TS.
