Question Would you want a Blu-ray release of Generals 2?

I would accept this which should shorten installation time dramatically, but not everyone here owns a Blu-ray ROM player or Blu-ray writer for the PC. It's already an installation pain for any game installed into Steam or Origin with a dual-layer DVD(s) and I think many players are getting tired of that. Single-layer DVDs still read faster than dual-layer DVDs though.

    What do you think?

I don't see how Generals being on Blu-ray would shorten installation times, if anything, wouldn't it lengthen the installation time?

Blu-Ray would not shorten any installation times at all. The time it takes to install games from Physical media depends on how fast your HDD can process the information and since SSD's are not recommended for Hardcore gaming yet due to quality of life issues really defeats the purpose of using/ installing one.

If you got a system that reads dual-layer discs very slowly then it's time to upgrade to a newer model DVD drive not bump up to Blu-Ray at this time. Older DVD drives and writers do struggle with dual-layer discs due to it's constant evolution and changes which certain drives simply cannot keep up with unless you buy a new drive with updated internal software support on the chip within the drive itself.

On many HDDs that may be true, but even on some of the faster 7200RPM drives let alone 10K drive, the read speed of Bluray still either barely hits or falls short of the fastest possible write speed. If I'm copying data from my 12x BDR drive, I'm getting about a peak speed of 55MB/s when copying to my 10K Velociraptor drive, even though the throughput is over 100MB/s peak. My Seagate 7200RPM has a throughput of ~84MB/s, which is again faster than the read speeds of a 12x BluRay

I don't want a giant DVD box again like SW:TOR with 3 DVDs. They should make a limited retail edition on BluRay (just on BluRay instead of DVD; 20.000-40.000 copies?). I would definately buy it.

That's when digital downloads really come in handy for everyone Putting bigger games on a Blu-Ray disc would just add an extra $5 to $10 to what you pay for the product.

I doubt it's feasible to market two hard disk variants, you get a lot of overhead for marketing/production/bla. Seeing that DVD is a de facto standard, I highly doubt that BR is going to be their choice.
