I had to update my steam to be able to start in offline mode. Which was bad, because my school LAN apparently stops Steam from running online. It's very odd.

I don't know about you people out there, but where I live, our internet connections can go down if the wind blows too hard. We lost power once because a cow rubbed her head on a transformer and blew it out. Our connections are better than they used to be, but still not good enough to realistically support an always online gamer, and I don't even live in the country!

    NO ALWAYS ONLINE REQUIREMENTS!

Those Transformers need better protection if a mere cow rubbing her head on it can take it down :/ I mean, don't those ground based Transformers have fences!?

    Well...it does now.

But remember, a cow is not a cat. Cattle have some serious muscle on them. That's why we eat them.

Origin has an offline mode and it works a lot better than Steam's. I doubt Generals 2 will require a constant connection and likely only require online activation on install.

    ^ This.

And I think worse case scenario we will see a 'it has been 30 days since you last verified your game, please log on to EA online.'

    Thanks Frish ^

^ this and it's pretty far fetched to think constant internet connections is a bad thing because look at MMO's and how they came along over recent years.

SC2 and and TT were bad examples how it's handled, TT just threw one out and disconnecting while playing SC2 SP made you unable to get achievements from that point on, so you had to reload. A more reasonable thing would be just pausing the game until connection is reestablished. Of course only having to log in every x days to authorize your copy makes the most sense for gamers but the alternatives aren't that unreasonable.
If a game kicks you out in the middle of SP because you lost connection it's just bad programming and doesn't say anything about the quality of the underlying method.

I have to agree with this thread.

All this "online requirement" stuff is killing modern games. Depressing stuff.

Please, Devs, don't require constant internet.

What? SC2 is not bad at all, given the fact that you can acually play offline in the first place, in fact, you might as well take SC2's route.

Acheivement and all those tidbits is minor compared to playing the actual game no-matter what connection you have.

    My quote:
'Meh, I don't really care anymore about the new games direction, with many loads of hours(make that years actually) on Tib Sun, YR, Generals, CnC3, and RA3, plus all the mods they come with, another game with the same old formula is rather redundant IMO. '

Eh. I stopped playing StarCraft 2 when they disallowed offline play.

I was actually thinking about buying the extra campaigns, but if they're going to get the same treatment as the campaign I actually liked, why bother?
