Don't worry. The cycle of gaming will hit them.

    1980-1995: Console gaming
    1995-2005: PC gaming
    2005-2015(?): Console gaming
    2015-2030: PC gaming

The return of the PC for gaming is near. The Wii U sounds unsatisfactory (poor marketing excuse for it), M$ and Phony haven't shown anything new. I can't wait for the cycle to appear again.

The stills of the new Unreal Engine 4 look quite impressive.

The thing with the last generation was that its graphics were better than PC's at the time of their release. Eventually the PC caught up and took the lead again. The next generation seems to be already behind before it is even out. The next xbox is getting an ATI 6670 GPU, which is already considered low end for the PC.

The problem is almost every developer is now into that hideous cross-platform promotion thingy. So games are developed for the console and then simply ported for PC. Whilst true console exclusives are being developed to squeeze the very last bit of power out of their respective console. Specialists beat generalists on their field any time of the day.

If developers would developed games FOR THE PC instead of mere PC ports, something like that would have never happened. Stupid cross-platform promotion is dumbing down our games with limited UIs, limited game functions and overall subpar elements all across the board.

Fanboy'ism of any sort being irrelevant, the PC will ALWAYS be the technological superious platform, but no one is actually using that advantage because of that stupid cross-platform. Why develope a console version AND a PC version if you can simply port it over to PC.

The ATI chipset is still just a guess and rumor. I've seen mentioned an ATI Modified 6 series chip and then I've seen the 6670 name dropped. At this point I'm willing to say we're getting an ATI chip but is it going to be heavily modified specific for the next xbox or just a straight name chip like the 6670.

Not every developer does this. Some developers have the resources to develop along side the PC version and others do not. Other developers just port and make sure it works and then ship it. Others take the time to enhance the game while doing a port but almost always forgets to maintain the core quality of the original game thus leaving the players with some hopelessly easy to see bugs that QA testing should have caught.

Of course I was generalizing with that statement, but in essence I haven't come across much games that are the exception making the rule. In fact, I don't know any recent game that has been a PC exclusive from the top of my head right now, which is pretty clear sign imo.

Duh, I don't play MMOs so I didn't think of those. Then again, are there enough MMOs on consoles to consider this a valid argument?

I don't know of any successful MMO on a console, also most of the MMOs are pretty bad considering graphics and memory management.
I am all for getting rid of consoles once and for all, all they do is halting development every few years after a new generation is out. Also a controller is fine FOR CERTAIN GENRES, nor for any.
