1v1v1 are the best in my opinion, they are the least predictable and they tend to have the most turns of events.

1v1, as I'm interested to see who are the players who are good at the game. As that can softly denote that they're skilled players. Yeah sure I can bully around on newbies to beef up my rank but lets leave that to another topic shall we?

lol at fake wiki entry btw, I barely take Wiki as a reliable or credible source of fact/info. Source of general info? Yes. Fact? NO!

edit: I also value teamplay btw, but lets leave the whole "teamranking" thing at tournies. As that is the more fitting place for such thing imo.

playing a 5v5 or comstomp with friend is the most fun i can think of and 4v4 too

when I was not married, just out of college playing the original c&c on wchat / kali I was ALL ABOUT the 1v1s of course on wchat that was all you could play. I did some 2v2 on KALI and it was awesome - laggy as can be but awesome.

Red alert I really got into the 2v2 scene, same with tib sun

moved over to Dark Reign 2 and got back into 1v1 and loved it, but kept on playing 2v2s and they were fun too

Generals I was in a top ranked 2v2 ladder on clanwars.cc and it was a blast, then when all the cheats and hacks took over me and some buds played a whole ton of 4v4 matches for fun and we had a blast with that too

in Red Alert 3 me and a couple of guys played a whole load of 3v3 matches (max size for that game)

I have a group of about 6 - 10 guys who love RTS and meet on vent - we played a whole load of 4v4 COH ranked matches, great, great fun.

As I've gotten older I just love the big game sizes with friends

1v1 is great for competition but now that I have 2 kids and a wife and two jobs on top I really can't get into that scene since I can only play once or twice a week

I'd love to see an attempt at 5v5 - that would be really cool to see how that might work, but I would hope 4v4 will be supported.

balance the online play for 1v1, but allow larger games and who cares if it's "broken" there is no possible way to balance large games sizes anyway they are more for fun than anything else

note: probably the most team fun I've ever had was playing 8v8s and up on Renegade - bring on the team play, I'm all for it

My most memorable battles were epic 5v5 battles in C&C 4. It's was so exciting. Often times we would be gridlocked in a wide array of units balanced out very nicely fighting over a particular node then finally one side breaks ground and starts moving the other side back. Once you gain a node it really makes you vulnerable to another node so the opposing team tries to gain that node.

I never had that experience before in previous C&C's with such precise balance. That kind of excitement was unique to C&C 4 and a testament to the well balanced sides. Such balance is very hard to attain when there is no unit limit cap because the programmers of the game just can't account for all eventualities.

Whereas base building is a whole other type of game, not RTT, because one side attacks the other side's base so one side plays defensively on one side of the map while the other side's base remains relatively unscathed. But with node play in C&C 4 you need to capture those 3 nodes of 5 to generate income albeit slowly. When you have 4 nodes points generated is much quicker but it is difficult to maintain 4 nodes because your team gets too spread out.

You need to play at least 50 to 100 online multiplayer games to appreciate this new dynamic. However, if you were able to fight through to that many games online, everyone who has done so has said they prefer this type of RTS play. So for anyone who didn't have the stamina or persistence to play that many online games and has since quit C&C 4 just realize if you did you would become an RTT fan. I am speaking from experience because I almost quit C&C 4 several times before putting in the time needed to be a fan.

Even after hearing what I am telling you, you still can't appreciate what I am saying because your understanding is dependant on having the experience. It is like forming an opinion about being able to get to the moon. Over a hundred years ago you would have thought it impossible. But once people could see the scientific calculations and actually land on the moon, it was difficult to convince someone otherwise. It requires your experience to acknowledge reality.

This is why Bioware realizes some people don't have the fortitude and foresight to appreciate C&C 4 so what Bioware is going to do is bring back a little base building but not as much as before, to slowly bring you into the new way of playing C&C with Generals 2. This has been the trend. It is unavoidable and inescapable and inextricable.

So you wanna get this thread locked too?

Rankings is always about 1 vs 1, competitive wise.

'Meh, I don't really care anymore about the new games direction, with many loads of hours(make that years actually) on Tib Sun, YR, Generals, CnC3, and RA3, plus all the mods they come with, another game with the same old formula is rather redundant IMO. '

Ranking is primarily 5v5 nowadays because that is where people flock to not 1v1 on such massive maps.

Players prefer more players and more units which goes with 5v5. Lots of action.

You prefer to be a loner. That's ok too.
