Urg why Amaranth? Since kicking out Tarja the band took a turn for the worse (personal opinion, though Bye Bye Beautiful was just over the top and only to troll Tarja).
Though in general you can notice a trend to getting less and less sophisticated, not only for Nightwish. Complete albums with nearly zero repetition was usual some time ago, now most songs have 2 verses that alternate with 0-4 words changed.
