Come to think of it, the series went a long way from the ripped off hand on the cover of the first game.

..I have a mixed bag of feelings. I like the general direction (expansion of scale and conflict), but I have a few issues.
While the first DS was only horror, in DS2 Isaac got used to the necromorphs and even headbutt'd the first one he saw. Still, DS2 included psychological horror and drama with Isaac's deteriorating psychical state.. It had great characters and blended action with horror very well. Now I understand Isaac is really not afraid of creatures he gunned down in hundreds, but with the psychological drama gone in favor of a untrustworthy buddy scenario.. I am really not sure if this will have any of the trademark horror.
I do understand coop is optional, but it adds a lot more story and drama, judging by the gameplay presented. Ergo: Playing solo is playing unfinished game with many character interactions taken out.
I like changes, they need to be made, but I only hope this game will be at least partialy scary and the human enemies will not be the main focus.
What happened to dismembering? I understand that on a seek and destroy mission Isaac and his band are finaly armed with military grade weapons instead of mining tools, but wasn't the whole point of DS1 and partialy 2 that conventional weapons do not work well against necromorphs? Sure, you shoot of limbs and the creatures react differently (I love the tentacles), but the heroes use machine guns and they seem to be able to gun down a necro by just shooting at his chest long enough, and it happens very, very fast. I see no real point in dismembering the necros judging by this gameplay, it was just reduced to a visual feat.
I also usualy dislike universal ammo, but considering that DS always gave us the ammo to the weapons we currently used, this is not a big change, in fact, it may increade the level of experimentation with different weapons..
BUT wasn't selecting the right type of ammo for the right weapon at the shop an important element in previous games, since you really had to think what to use and when? Now it's much closer to "shoot with all you've got!" mentality. Streamlined, yes, but is it that interesting?
Last, story-wise issue, but it may be already explained in the lore..
Why does Isaac use some sort of standard issue "Snow Suit", when he has an experimental advanced high-tech suit at the beginning? One can guess it's the weather conditions..
.. but every suit Isaac uses is able to handle space vacuum, that is: The temperature of absolute zero, -273 degrees. Why does he need then a "warmer" suit? He can't possibly have a "warmer" and better prepared for extreme conditions suit that he has now..
