lol so true. Isaac is not holding an orange, so this is an original box art.

Come to think of it, the series went a long way from the ripped off hand on the cover of the first game.

    -------

..I have a mixed bag of feelings. I like the general direction (expansion of scale and conflict), but I have a few issues.

While the first DS was only horror, in DS2 Isaac got used to the necromorphs and even headbutt'd the first one he saw. Still, DS2 included psychological horror and drama with Isaac's deteriorating psychical state.. It had great characters and blended action with horror very well. Now I understand Isaac is really not afraid of creatures he gunned down in hundreds, but with the psychological drama gone in favor of a untrustworthy buddy scenario.. I am really not sure if this will have any of the trademark horror.

I do understand coop is optional, but it adds a lot more story and drama, judging by the gameplay presented. Ergo: Playing solo is playing unfinished game with many character interactions taken out.

I like changes, they need to be made, but I only hope this game will be at least partialy scary and the human enemies will not be the main focus.

What happened to dismembering? I understand that on a seek and destroy mission Isaac and his band are finaly armed with military grade weapons instead of mining tools, but wasn't the whole point of DS1 and partialy 2 that conventional weapons do not work well against necromorphs? Sure, you shoot of limbs and the creatures react differently (I love the tentacles), but the heroes use machine guns and they seem to be able to gun down a necro by just shooting at his chest long enough, and it happens very, very fast. I see no real point in dismembering the necros judging by this gameplay, it was just reduced to a visual feat.

I also usualy dislike universal ammo, but considering that DS always gave us the ammo to the weapons we currently used, this is not a big change, in fact, it may increade the level of experimentation with different weapons..

BUT wasn't selecting the right type of ammo for the right weapon at the shop an important element in previous games, since you really had to think what to use and when? Now it's much closer to "shoot with all you've got!" mentality. Streamlined, yes, but is it that interesting?

Last, story-wise issue, but it may be already explained in the lore..

Why does Isaac use some sort of standard issue "Snow Suit", when he has an experimental advanced high-tech suit at the beginning? One can guess it's the weather conditions..
.. but every suit Isaac uses is able to handle space vacuum, that is: The temperature of absolute zero, -273 degrees. Why does he need then a "warmer" suit? He can't possibly have a "warmer" and better prepared for extreme conditions suit that he has now..

Maybe Issac could die in the middle of the game, and there would be a new main character.

All these and more will be answered once you have shown EA you have pre-ordered the game, do it NOW!
Live well. It is the greatest revenge... And be the salt and light of Earth.

Co-op stops the game from being scary at all. dead space 3 should not have co-op. there also shouldn't be human enemies.

Found a little flash game with a Metroid Fusion/Dead Space-like feel to it to hold people over until DS3 is out. It was published in '08, so some people may have seen it before, but here is, "The Breach".

    Enjoy!

I just realized what would make the dead space franchise better and maybe scary again. Imagine, Isaac is about to destroy the marker, only to realize it is a fake. At this point, he discovers the real marker has been moved to somewhere in space and the planet he is on has been condemned to destruction. He quickly makes his way to a place with a ship, only to realize that the ship is no longer functional. In an attempt to destroy the marker, he sends out a message with some generic instructions to Ellie, who is already in space somehow. At this point you woulds think "oh, I've seen this before, Isaac is gonna die and gets rescued by Ellie. but he convinces her that she is unable to save him, and the game ends with the planet being destroyed and Issac's ultimate death. This, imo, should be the Dead Space 3 ending.

    So dark. Why not.

But I must say, I quite like Isaac. He has some charm. Getting him killed would be a pity.

Sounds great, but then they'd still have to take down the real marker.

I also have a very stupid idea, and it kinda takes away the ''Space'' in Dead Space, but I'll try:

Isaac is in a space ship looking for the marker, and after a few chapters he manages to find and destroy it. Only to find out it was a fake, and that Earthgov has actually taken the real marker............. to Earth.

Isaac calls upon Ellie to travel to earth. Once on earth, he'll find out that the necromorphs are attacking every major city. Slaughtering every citizen there is, and turning them into massive armies of necromorphs. Not only does Isaac have to find and destroy the real marker, he also has to elimanate all the necromorphs. Or Earth is lost.

Once thats done, the Unitologists capture the real marker and bring it back to space. Ellie and Isaac will be following them, and Isaac will get dropped into the Unitologist HQ. It is there where they'll keep the real marker, and Isaac has to fight his way trough armies ofnecromorphs and Unitologists.

Thus you have the beginnings of a Dead Space 4.

Now that this game is out, what do you think of it? Did anyone play it?
