I know. Even the space jockey, the Weyland Company, David the android, the alien at the end of the film, plus giant face hugger are all references to the Alien films.

Like I said, same universe, but not a directly related, sequential film. Ridley Scott himself has said so, and he determines the canon. So his word, goes.

As a fun note, David follows the alphabetical line of robot names from the Alien films.

The robot in Alien was named Ash, the one in Aliens was Bishop, the one in Resurrection was named Cal. So A, B, C, and now D, David.

Maybe Epsilon? Epsilon is a good robot name.

I think Eli sounds good. Or Ellie if it's female. Ed could work too, but that sounds a little too casual.

Watched the movie finally. Late to the party again, yeah..

    So, I really enjoyed it.

Sure, it has downsides: It's often very predictable, has suprisingly little plot going on (this may however be the fault of trailers and posters spoiling the entire movie), and sometimes the characters are quite dumb.

Still, despite the flaws, it really pulls off as an interesting movie, with glorious visuals and music, interesting theme and some great acting.

I disagree with it being a sequel bait - The ending is opened, many questions are unanswered, maybie indeed too many and the answers we are given are too obvious and shallow, but it's still a great open ending to a closed story. The amount of unanswered issues is IMO more the matter of satisfaction after viewing the movie than forcing it into a sequel, because I think a sequel is really not needed and the story is well concluded.

Yeah, didn't feel like Alien prequel, but it's more of a tie-in than a prequel, and I really loved this "majestic adventure deep into space and ourselves!"-atmosphere.

I disagree with the fan backslash/criticism, I find this one of the best sci-fi movies I recently saw.

One thing about the movie was that it seemed to question your own humanity and why we are here. But as many other fans stated that there are way to many questions that are left unanswered.

I just have one question exactly how would the canisters would have worked if they were dropped like a bomb. The reason I'm asking this is because we saw what happened when the two separate liquids did when they interacted with another lifeform, but what would have happened if they combined. My friend told me that it would act as a multistage bomb where they would interact upon impact.

Yeah, that's true, as I said: The amount and quality of answers given is unsatisfactionary.

As for the canisters.. I guess that since we have all sorts of life on every square centimeter of our planet, wherever even one of them would hit, a ton of rapidly mutating hostile abominations would appear. Considering how empty and devoid of life the Engineer compound was in the movie, it may be possible that those creatures are unable to multiply and/or have some sort of failsafe properties that cause them to die after a set period of time. So those canisters can be some sort of "instant biosystem deleters just add life".

One thing I mean is that the black goo interacted with some sort of worm/maggot looking creature then changed into a snake/cobra creature. Then David put the other goo into the scientist so I was just wondering what would happen if the two interacted with each other.

I guess it's the same liquid probably.. If not, then dunno, maybie the mutations would be even more horrible or something..
