Generals ZH: LAN: Can't find other computers

All right, I've scoured the web, and this forum, and after navigating the nightmare that is setting up an EA account, finally got registered both there and here. All to ask a seemingly simple question. :P

As per my topic title, all I want to do is play LAN with my brother, since we like comp-stomping and we're both too nooby to play online. However, when we go to set up our computers, no matter who's hosting, we can't see the other player in the lobby, and neither one of us can join. We've tried everything, fresh installs, Hamachi, VPNs on our own machines--and I'm running out of ideas. Can anybody help me? The weird part is we can both see other games online, and can play LAN in original Generals no problem. But we like the shockwave mod :P and that's only for ZH.

Oops--forgot some info: We're both running Win7, my brother has an HP laptop (forget the exact specs, will post later) and I have a Gateway NV53A laptop with 4GB ram, ATI Mobility GPU, and 2.7GHz CPU
