As of yet there were no competitive games with mods. Also sure, without walls etc you wont place defenses if not needed because the enemy just runs around them if you do.

Ya, so we shall see, but if we look to Ts, were walls and gates used that much?

I personally did, making pretty ordered bases.......Ahh, the good old days.......

Sometimes they were used to create chokes in TS but in RA2 they were also only used to keep your conyard save from engineers.

Actually on those homemade maps that became popular in the later days, you know the completely flat maps with just walls of rocks around your base with small chokepoints (purple moon, dragon's lair, waterworld, those kind of maps), I remember gates were actually used quite a lot because they could easily be placed inside the chokepoints.
On official maps, not at all though.

I always liked the idea of gates, more for the fact that they made bases feel like actual bases, and not just collections of buildings. Walls I used, but gates, I admit, I rarely had a practical use for.

Gates are great for protection but they slow down the gameplay regardless of their functionality. Concrete walls on the other hand is something I would be wanting to input in a C&C3 mod, just like normal walls, but they have to take damage.

IDK if Carnius may be attempting to put gates in Tiberium Essence, but there are others who are willing to put those in other C&C3 mods.
