    modding question

im wanting to take units and buildings from RA3 and put them into TW/KW.

how had would it be to make .... half of the RA3 effects work? IE unit abilities, general powers etc.

no navy, im mostly thinking just things like T1 and T2 units or some thing, not a full out faction, not even sure what im going to import .... once i know how to.

    im THINKING of using.

    Inf: (squads)
Peace keeper ( using machine gun, no shield squad of 6)
Javelin Soldier ( no ability squad of 3)
Tesla Trooper (squad of 4 no change?)
    Al engineer

    Tanks:
    IFV (no change)
    Guardian Tank or Tsunami Tank
Mirage Tank ( is just a tank, no Mirage ability )

    Aircraft:
    Vindicator (no change)
Cryocopter or Twinblade (act kind of like a Venom)
    Apollo Fighter (no change)

    Buildings:
Boot Camp (able to heal like GDI Armory)
Al Power Plant/ Ru Reactor/ Ja Generator
    Armor facility/ Mecha Bay
    Al Air Base
Al Ore Refinery (uses Tib )
    Battle Lab
Defender VX (Gun or missile types, no transformation)
    Wave Force Tower

could i get any comments on the idea, what units/buildings im thinking of etc.

Here we go again with people with over-exaggerated ambitions that will never see the light of day.

Always start easy, cause thats the foundation of a good personal mod, like I had.

    My quote:
'Meh, I don't really care anymore about the new games direction, with many loads of hours(make that years actually) on Tib Sun, YR, Generals, CnC3, and RA3, plus all the mods they come with, another game with the same old formula is rather redundant IMO. '

well i kind of got the idea because of you Commander32 ..... sort of, when you gave me the link to the KW SDK and i saw these.

so i figured, adding more units and buildings should be easy enough, i would have to extract the model files and textures and probably some code files telling the buildings what to do etc.

i also have 3D MAX 2012, so if i could find a tutorial, i could convert the files as needed, i also have Photoshop so i can change textures also as needed.

just for arguments sake, what powerplant is more interesting in that of, you know what it is and it looks like it, its not a strange building, im kind of leaning towards the Allied powerplant just to try this out, hoping that i can do all of this work.

but i dont want to use some thing that im not going to actually use.

Well, converting the models for most units and buildings is fairly easy, I am using a bit of RA3 stuff for my own little forgotten mod.

Most of the time you only need to extract the files, change the shaders to their TW counterparts and maybe use a tool that combines some of the w3x files to made them easier to handle.
You dont even need 3ds max for that, notepad++ is enough.

Creating their xmls might also be easy since the RA3 xml are included in the RA3 SDK - however, its still a lot of work and very very time consuming.

Also: Infantry in RA3 might have a different size than in TW, so you might need bibbers w3x resizer to fix that.. and I think the RA3 inf lacks animations for taking cover near buildings.

    Edit:
Well, the housecolor needs some work...

oh i have no problem with it being time consuming, i have to be able to sit there and work on projects that take time, i have lots on my hands any ways.

I not only just want to have some fun with this, but to also show that i can do it.

Well, just make sure you don't overdo yourself, it can happen sometimes and you find yourself wasting hours on front pt that PC.... kinda makes you exhausted after that. :/

I have to be able to, not only do i spend 60% of my day at the computers working on my projects, its also part of the career path that ive decided to follow.

The only thing is that i know im going to need help with some things, i will need some one from time to time to tell me how to do X, like ...... how to physically import the things i want into TW/KW, the actual process and tools that i would need, i have the SDKs and N++ what else would i need?
