Smile 1 Minor Problem after Patching.

    Hi,

    OS Info: Windows 7 64bit

    Games installed: All of them

Fixes I have added: Main matches + the .dll file to correct colour problems.

    Problem: RA1 video

Received the game today, took my time to install correctly following the very useful "common problems" thread, currently everything appears fine (apart from the following) although like I said I only got it today so I'm sure something else will crop up
I'm encountering a minor problem with the video scenes in RA1. They appear to have thin black lines running horizontally all the way down which significantly reduces quality of the video, this isn't a huge problem by any means but it would be nice to fix it. Can't seem to find any relevant fixes on the web, although I'm sure I'm overlooking something glaringly obvious!

    Thanks in advance,
    unitready

That's always been that way, actually. It's just how they stretched the videos in RA95. The original videos ARE only 320x200 (from the DOS version), so in terms of quality, you're stuck with that anyway. To adjust them to the Win95 version's 640x400 resolution, the game simply stretches them only horizontally, and spaces the lines of pixels out vertically, leaving the in-between lines black. The technical term for these black lines is 'scanlines'. It was sort of a style decision, I guess, or done to conserve CPU power, I dunno.

Anyway, I made a hack a while ago to disable the lines, to make the game stretch it vertically as well as horizontally. If you got v3.03 (easy to check in the files; if you got a "ra95.dat" file you got v3.03), and know how to use a hex editor, you can do this:

By the way, thanks so much for the first intelligent and well-researched post I've seen here in months. You are a breath of fresh air in this place

    Nyerguds,

Thank you very much for your reply and your kind words! Its nice to know that its related to how the game was originally made, as opposed to an error that has arisen out of TFD release. Ill see if I can put the posts you linked me to into good use!

    Thanks again,

In C&C95 (which I made a full game patch for) I just made it a configuration option, which is set to full smooth stretching by default
