EA. This is what you are doing. This is how you are treating your fans.

I used to love you, EA, good times and bad. But frankly, this is my personal opinion of the situation that is happening.

Thanks again for not listening to the people who pay you for your games.

Would be 100% true if C&C F2P was employing a P2W model which it's not.

Except it's more than just that. This video is mainly about the fact that EA doesn't listen to fans, and that sure enough, you have to pay incrementally for a system that we won't be able to mod or enjoy like we could with previous games.

And what makes you so certain they aren't going to?

EA has done much for and in between for them to no longer get the benefit of doubt. If they can screw something up by going for financial priorities, EA has always done that.

Unless you can give me irrefutable evidence that EA is not going to employ a P2W system sooner or later, I will expect them to do just that.
And even they'd promise us not to, unless they sign a legally binding and jurisdictionally valid contract to uphold their promise in its entirity and implifications as to not loophole themselves out of it by punishment of paying a hundred dollors to every person that registered the game from the start until two weeks after a thorough public announcement, I'd expect EA to lie.

That's what I think of them.

I no longer think in positive hypotheticals as far as EA is concerned and I am far from unreasonable with that attitude. What's enough is enough.

I agree with Feloidea. Let's face it. Even if they say that it's not going to be a P2W model, what credibility do they have to actually following through with what they are saying? They make claims time and time again and go back on their word or completely change agenda.

Why, pray tell, would they test this sudden "Tiberium Alliances" game that popped up completely out of the blue? And now that it's apparently doing so well (Because a lot of people are paying), they suddenly decide to switch to this new F2P version of C&C.

Don't think for a second that everything they say they are going to do is exactly what they are going to do.

But that's besides the point. The video is about the fact that yes, it's F2P, and yes, they have completely ignored fanbase feedback. It's all about the money for them, and they're screwing us over because of it. Modding will be ****, if not non-existent, and people who actually pay will be paying up the *** for a less than stellar game.

I'm miffed at the F2P swerve myself. I think I would have been more open to it if the development wasn't gag-ordered to the extreme degree. I think, instead going back into NDA mode when the decision was handed down to convert Generals 2 into F2P and then 'suprise!' at Gamescon, it just really felt sour. I think a better approach would have been to say we're converting Generals 2 to an F2P model (due to profitibaility or a shift in focus, or whatever), and that more information would be available at Gamescon.

PLEASE, EA, please reconsider your decision. God damn: please!!!! I beg you!!

Wow, this is a sad day for humanity.

One of your best and funniest videos yet... made in around 24 hours and on such subject.

from what we're hearing from the forum staff, it wont be P2W.... and hopefully it wont -- if it does turn out as P2W, rest assured ill join the rest of you folks to go burn down EA HQ.

the game will be likely be available in its entirety for free -- and the payments only for stuff like new skins or SP maps

honestly people are just jumping to baseless conclusions here... theres been no info on how this F2P would work, so theres no reason to shoot it down yet

once again, theres SO many ways EA can earn their money while still allowing full access to most of the game for free

    for eg

Campaign/co-op content will be a huge money maker for them. Basically releasing scripted maps, or different gameplay modes like horde/art-of-defense etc.

And as I said, they CAN offer uber units and power-ups for co-op or skirmish style gameplay, but you just can't use those in a ladder.

Suppose this game draws in 5,000,000 players. Of those, only 250,000 play on a ladder. That's still about 249,000 more than have played older C&C games, and EA can easily monetize the remaining 4,750,000 players who play non-competitive modes.

Or how about a replay locker? You pay $5, and all of your replays automatically get stored in a robust, organize-able replay locker service. Of course you can always save replays to your HDD if you want, but this would keep them online for you, automatically.

There really are endless possibilities. I don't think EA will have trouble generating revenue as long as the gameplay is addictive enough.
F2P is in no way a bad thing in itself... it has plenty of potential to keep everyone happy - the EA bosses, the devs, the players.

it now simply comes down to how they're going to implement it. if they take some cues from AGM's post there, it could turn out really well. on the other hand, they could also go the Tib Alliances way and botch it up with the pinnacle of F2P retardation (TA is totally an example of Pay2Win....)

we can only hope EA makes the right decisions here.
