    Really Confused Here

So was generals 2 scrapped? How can they release news like this, but be so vague on the details? I know it *was* titled "Command and Conquer Generals 2" and now it's titled "Command and Conquer" with a "Frostbyte 2" thrown in there for martketing reasons no doubt, but what of Generals 2?

Will this F2P title still be the EU vs GLA vs Mystery Faction? Will there even be a third faction? All I saw in that trailer was two armies, no hints of anything else. can I at least expect the Generals Universe? They don't even address that . Will there be a single player component to this game now, or is it all online nonsense driven by constant updates from multiplayer feedback. One of my facorite parts of Generals 2 was the General's Challenges, which I'm sure I can kiss goodbye if they are pushing a multiplayer F2P model.

It just seems that there's a LOT of questions that need to be answered about this drastic new change, and none of them have been addressed.

Yes, EA's handling of the naming is very confusing.

Generals 2 has not been scrapped. What they have built so far has been "folded" into a broad umbrella free-to-play client called Command and Conquer, and will be the first game universe that is part of this client. The Red Alert and Tiberium will follow.

So the game is still Generals (though I don't think it's accurate to say it's Generals 2, since it's merely THE representation of the Generals universe).

At this point, I'm willing to bet that it will be just two factions at launch, with a 3rd faction available as DLC. If that's the case, that will be fail #1 on EA's part. What they should do is release all three factions, and then you have to choose just one faction you want to play with. Then you have to pay to unlock access to the other two factions. That way all three are released together which means their metagames will evolve at the same time, which helps balance perceptions.

can I at least expect the Generals Universe?
Yes, it will be Generals. Of course, they could muck it up and not include anything that made Generals what it was, but that's a whole other issue :P

Will there be a single player component to this game now
No. It will not launch with SP. That will most likely be a purchasable addon later. If you look on the bright side, it will cost less than $60, or if it does, then it will probably contain a shitload more content than if the ENTIRE game had shipped for $60. So just by being a bit patient, you'll get access to a SP campaign at a better value than if the game had been a $60 box product.

One of my facorite parts of Generals 2 was the General's Challenges, which I'm sure I can kiss goodbye if they are pushing a multiplayer F2P model.
On the contrary, Generals Challenge with Co-op support would be an AWESOME DLC. Imagine if each challenge cost just $1 (or maybe get a bunch for $10), which you could take on alone, or with some friends. That would be really cool.

AGM - the 3 faction pay model is perfect.

You've got contacts at EA still? Make it happen. I was wondering how they could do this myself, I was thinking releasing 2 factions and having the 3rd be one you could buy, but your right - let users pick one for free - then pay for the other two if they want.

    good idea.

that is a good idea, actually this forum is really loaded with good thoughful ideas (hard to believe I know). I hope EA is actually listening to everyone. I read another post that listed good ways to introduce DLC without breaking online play or making the game P2W. Actually good thoughtful conversation floating around these boards lately.

Well, that at least makes me feel a bit better; I'm glad it's the Generals universe. I do like the idea of the "pick one army, buy the rest" but we'll have to see as more details emerge. One thing I'm really hoping they keep is the different, specialized Generals (Air Force General, tank General, etc) and the unlock tree that they offered. That really allowed you to change up your armies and make it feel like you weren't playing as the same armies. But, those again, are details we'll have to wait for.
